Also does the Win7 dvd give an option to format the partition like how the XP dvd does when you boot off it? .

Yes it does, but yeah, you have to boot off the DVD.

when i burned it, nero popped up a msg saying Foriegn image file and the block size doesnt correspond with the actual size? Gave an option to fix it or leave it. I left it cuz the fix it option had 2048 or 2352 and both still ended up showing the same error msg. Did that pop up for you when your burned it?

TOS'd 11-02-2009 05:32 PM

J, try this. This was posted on redflags, the iso from digital river.

64bit
http://msft-dnl.digitalrivercontent..../X15-65805.iso

32bit
http://msft-dnl.digitalrivercontent..../X15-65804.iso

I was able to burn out the 64bit iso, boot off the DVD and do a clean install on a brand new HD.

is that for win7 pro? or home premium?

twstd_reality 11-02-2009 07:58 PM

^^ those are the exact same links on the page I posted.

Anyways, this is how I made my bootable Win7 DVD: http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=11194

You just use ImgBurn to create a bootable dvd from the files you downloaded and extracted from digital river.

im suprised because when i did the memory upgrade for the 360 through microsoft it got to me in under a week, less demand for that i guess

Audi-Quattro 11-11-2009 12:51 PM

Did anyone download the student special Windows 7 recently?
I want to know if you still download the .exe file which had a lot of complaints or do you download a .iso so you can burn it to a dvd right away.

JKam 11-17-2009 11:38 PM

I'm not sure, I'm going to see if I can install it on 2 of my laptops. I might just make my own disc now.

i just did the download yesterday. I downloaded the exe file and the setup was running without me creating a boot disk.

i know its only been out for a few weeks, but i thought it would be more compatible with existing apps.

i wouldnt call this a reason not to buy it, but ive had 64bit windows 7 pro installed for 3 days and have already run into multiple programs that do not support it. SQL server doesnt work with windows 7 x64 (x64 xp/vista only), so i had to run it inside a VMWare environment with 32bit XP. also sometimes i like to keep older versions of programs because i dont like bloated software. an example of this is adobe acrobat. i've been using version 6.0 for years! older apps were not made for x64 environments obviously. i have a drive on my computer where i keep old software. can't use stuff like that anymore.
