I am not taking kids out for ToT nor giving out candies this year, which I usually just leave a bowl at door as I take the kids out.

It's the only responsible thing to do given the situation.

They can still wear a costume to school and I'd probably prep a few treats that are individually sealed wrapped for them to take to school to share to their classmates, but that's as far as the social bubble goes for this Halloween.

And I thought sanitizing the candy after we got home might have been over the top... but 2020. I stopped sanitizing groceries and packages weeks ago.

As a parent, no judgement on this at all. You do what fits your risk tolerance. We had to take one kid to Children's for Covid test on the weekend as they started throwing up and had other flu/covid symptoms....

Negative result, but it was a long 6 hrs of trying to figure out the 10-14 days if they were.

double post

I bought a few boxes of candy and some trick or treat buckets. I'm just going to fill up the buckets and drop them off for my nieces since they're not going out either.

Apart from Riverview Hospital, any good local areas to take car photos with a creepy background?

Trying to do some Halloween photos with my car. Thanks in advance.

Hycroft Manor in Vancouver's Shaughnessy neighbourhood.

It can look pretty creepy at night.

I’m almost finished with the display. Got signs up for physical distancing. Arrows on the ground. An entry and a separate exit. Working on the chute to deliver prepackaged bags of chocolates this afternoon. Tongs will be used to place the bags onto the chute on Halloween. Trick or Treaters will hold their open bags under the end of the chute to catch the bags. Hand sanitizers will be on hand and the chute will be sanitized often. It’ll depend on how touchy and stupid the ToTs get. I’ll also have a PA system that’ll go over the scary music.

It’s a lot of work and most people wouldn’t attempt it, but to me All Hallow’s Eve is very special. It’s part of being a kid. If only a handful of tots show up, I’m okay with it. The neighbours and their kids enjoy the decorations I put up every year.

Forgot to mention. No fog effects this year for the graveyard scene. It's not a good idea due to Covid. Will have to just use dry ice for the cauldron display.

Aren't they all just outlets of the same company? All just Phatboy fireworks?

MG1 10-29-2020 12:07 PM

I just drove by the one on the corner of Rupert and Broadway. The old bonsai place. It’s a Phatboy.

Do they sell bottle rockets and such? Or would I have to grab those off the black market?

Mr.Money 10-30-2020 09:25 PM

bottle rockets should be common,it's fire crackers that are black market.

not sure about m80's but I'd be careful as fuck with those and the straight flash powder

The McIver farmhouse in Langley is a nice backdrop, especially when it's foggy.

On 252 st and 80 ave. Can't really drive up to it as it is in the middle of a turf field.

whitev70r 10-31-2020 01:13 PM

Tomorrow cannot come fast enough!

quasi 10-31-2020 01:23 PM

I went out and bought some candy this afternoon and I think I waited to long hah, had to go to a few stores to find anyone with candy. Wife and I bagged it, just going to leave it in a box on a table in the driveway.

If some kid comes along and takes it all GG kid, nice job. haha

StylinRed 10-31-2020 06:39 PM

A couple kids came before I had the candy out, it was so early, and I didn't get to them in time  left a box outside full of candy, and only one family has come by, lots of kids playing with fireworks n firecrackers tho

B!tch 10-31-2020 07:12 PM

Firecrackers/works have been almost constant for last hour and a half and its only 8 pm. The dog is surprisingly unaffected.

whitev70r 10-31-2020 07:28 PM

^ this. Sounds like a war zone.

Who the hell has so much $$ to literally burn? Last year, right ...

JSALES 10-31-2020 07:33 PM

All these fireworks/firecrackers make me want to go buy some and join in on the fun lol

quasi 10-31-2020 07:49 PM

Zero kids, seen one group on my street but they couldn't be bothered to walk up my driveway lol

Lots of fireworks one of my dogs wants to fight someone everytime they explode, normally don't ket him bark but fuck it go in the backyard and bark your lungs out.

MG1 10-31-2020 07:55 PM

So far 80 or so kids. Lots of parents filming the display. The physical distancing labels I put down actually worked. The chute I built was the best part. Some pretty dumb kids out there, lol. Told them to hold the bag under the lip. One kid places the bag on top of tube and the bag of goodies lands on his foot.
