Westminster Ave used to be the go-to spot, not sure anymore since I haven't been there for over year.

There use to be some free parking spots by the park on Village Dr, not sure anymore though.

I've received 15 tickets from them, no problems.

I have a question for the Journeymen electricians who've graduated from BCIT.

7 years ago, I started apprenticing for my friend (A-ticket electrician) at his newly started company. My original plan was to take night courses (ACE Learning Center) and challenge each level to get my ticket. I've gone as far as completing my level 2 before the company got super busy and I just couldn't find the time for school.

Recently I've found some time but the ITA has changed the rules and you can't challenge levels 3 and 4 in BC anymore.

So my question is should I start at level 3 at BCIT or should I start all over again from level 1 since BCIT is much more thorough in their teaching? I've counted up my hours from since I started and have close to 15,000 hours of work experience.

Anyone here park at the Church? So far they only check parking in lot F and E on tuesday around 2 - 3pm. After 2 tickets you get towed though.

Level one is BS. If you have been working out in the field for a number of years you will not learn anything new.

It's up to you if you want to start at level 2 and continue from there, but if I were you I would try to start as far a long the process as possible, so if you can get right into level 3 that's what I would do.

Time outside of class counts for a lot more than time inside the classroom. You will learn more in an hour out in the field with a good mentor than you will in 3 hours inside the classroom.

Note: I did not do electrical, but I think my logic applies to all apprenticeships done through BCIT.

BCIT is not thorough, they give u so much shit to learn and do in such a small amount of time. I say just start level 3, ull save money, time and especially stress.

Im currently finishing up my last week of level 2. Pretty much my instructor teaches for a few hours then gives you a shitload of worksheets. Bcit is not thorough its more self driven and repetition with all the worksheets. Level 1 was a cake walk and not worth your time or money. Level 2 a bit harder but not by much. I havent done any homework or studying and im averaging 80%. Imo if youre good at math i would start at level 3. Hope that helps

Anyone know how to incentive grant for lvl 1 and 2 work? I was told that you have to build hours and wait for ITA to contact you once you qualify? but it says you need to apply before JUne 30th?

Apprenticeship Incentive Grant - Eligibility - Service Canada

You are correct once you qualify for the grants ITA will email you saying you have xxxx amount of hours and that you can apply for the grants. Once you get that email fill out the service canada forms and also send in the ITA email that says you are eligible. The june 30th deadline is for the following year after you are eligible. For electrical it is 1500 hours each for level 1 and 2.

Serious question, anyone in the BCIT school of business studying full time and still have time to work? I'm going there for Marketing next sept, and I need to know if I will still have any time to work since I know you take 7-8 courses a semester. If I don't have time, then I need to start saving for things like my car insurance now lol. Of course each person is different, just want to know if the course load is so intense you don't have any time for anything else. Thanks!

I didn't do business but I did do the Electrical Engineering (Telecom) diploma while working 25 hours per week. I'm pretty sure the workload is pretty much equivalent regardless of your major.

7am-9pm mon-thurs, 7am-4pm fri and worked 25 hours from 5pm fri to 6pm Sunday. I did that for almost 3 years for a 2 yr program because I had to take a summer course and an extra term because I was spread out so thin.

I suggest going early for the free parking by the park near ICBC to save yourself $100/month if money is tight.

If you can find an employer to hire you for 8 hours, then work. If they ask for more, I would look into becoming a peer tutor ($13-14/hr). You get paid to do your homework if no one needs your help.

have you been out of school for long? or is marketing nothing new to you?

a buddy of mine went back to school at bcit last sept for marketing, after being out of school for a period of time.
he works only saturdays and he often stays late at school everyday to ensure his workload is done.

he did mention that some people in his class took a couple classes in the summer so their have two less classes to worry about during the fall semester. but the downfall of that is you pay for the two courses when you take it in the summer and you also pay the full amount for fall semester- as it's a "set" price.

your not gonna have time to work.

I'm currently working as a marketer and run a business and I usually work 60+ hours a week so I'm not too scared of having a massive work load, just don't want to not be able to focus on school if I have to work right after. Man the next few years are going to be terrible lol

I'd say 20% of the class is working, and they are working anywhere from 8 - 24 hours a week. It's doable the courses aren't hard, it's just a bunch of work cause 6-7 quizzes a week + assignments. I worked during the first 3 months of the first semester but couldn't find time for gym or to go out. The extra money is nice though.
