Customer service is entirely hit-or-miss. Sometimes you get someone who doesn't know shit about what they're doing, the next time you get the nicest, most knowledgeable person you could ask for.

If there's one thing that's dependable, it's retarded waiting times.

Shaw called my bluff today so I called up Telus and scheduled my install for near the end of the month. I'm already paying for this month so no point in canceling early. Went to futureshop tonight and bought the new boxes, even with buying a PVR and another HD box I'm going to be saving $800 in the next 12 months and get more channels.

After the year I'll have PVR's and HD boxes for both shaw and telus and will whore my money out to whoever is going to give me the best deal. My only loyalty is to my wallet.

I'm using the Optik TV from Telus. I've used Shaw in the past but not for a long period of time so I wouldn't know how it's like with them. Overall, it's a good experience with the HD programs, the 250gb XBOX360 it comes with, and the customer service was decent.

As someone said earlier, customer service is entirely hit or miss, sometimes you speak with an east Indian guy and can't get a damn word they're saying, and sometimes you get the politest rep and explains everything to detail

Why the FUCK is internet still as slow as god knows how many years ago? Japan a decade ago STILL had faster internet than what we have now.

It's bad enough getting overcharged for outdated internet, now they're going to overcharge on their already retarded prices, and provide LESS service than before.

Broadband needs more Wind/Mobilicity-esque companies.

Unfortunately, Bell, Rogers, and Telus own most of the broadband / telecommunications infrastructure in Canada and everyone else piggy backs off them. That's why now that the CRTC is allowing Bell to charge all the small ISPs piggy backing off them usage fees, those ISPs will pass those charges on to the customers. This is going to turn out the same as mobile phone data plans. Everyone charging the same for the same amount of data. Hoooray! :failed:

Mananetwork 02-02-2011 10:30 PM

I'm sitting at my parents downloading off their Telus line at 1.5MB/s at the same price Shaw provides basic internet. Shaw, step it up!

I voted for conservative simply cause I felt it was the lesser of the evils.

Except, now, I feel like it was a much less wasted vote.

I literally laughed so hard reading this.
Have you been to Japan a decade ago?? so.. that would be 2001.. exactly when I was there helping a corporation setup IT department. A company consists of over 500 employees were sharing a connection that has capability of two 56k modem.. and they still had to shell out $2000 a month for that crappy internet. Back in 2001, Japanese kids did not play online game simply because they couldn't afford it. One of the reason why RPG game was so popular in Japan. If you were talking about Korea, that's another story.. Korea and Japan-NOW(not a decade ago) have ultra speed not because they have advanced technology(well maybe that too but) mainly because they are tiny fucking country compare to Canada.

LOL, when I called shaw this morning to cancel my service they were so anoying. I think the guy used the words inferior and shared bandwidth phrases at least 15 times in a 5 min conversation. I wasn't looking for anything from them just to cancel my service and he just kept going on and on and on about how inferior Telus is.

I was like maybe so but I'm not signing a contract so if it sucks I'll come back and you'll be glad to have me. I'm saving over $800 a year it's a no brainer.

It's probably because they got their internet ages ago and haven't changed/upgraded since. Tell them to call in and they'll get an upgrade to whatever the Telus speed is now at their current price point.

... I said 1.5mb not 200kb. With shaw at home I can't get higher then 400kb and my parents are doing 1500kb

Installed yesterday and this is the speed I'm getting when hardwired into the Actiontec modem/router they gave us.

WiFi is messed up though. Speeds consistently go from fast/decent/slow as fuck

silva95teg 02-06-2011 04:26 PM

Do you have wireless n on your laptop? I consistently get the same speeds as my wired connection with my actiontec. I should mention I live in a house though so not much wireless interference.

Here's my new Telus Optic Turbo connection..

http://www.speedtest.net/result/1144852709.png

I had went up to 2.8MB/s on BT downloads :).. that's like ~2800Kbps!! :D

rk604 02-07-2011 09:43 AM

^^^
Get your units right

2.8Mbps = 0.35MB/s = 358KB/s

This seems pretty average/low

unless you meant:

2.8MBps = 2867KB/s
now THATS crazy speeds

You think?

RC0310_EJ 02-07-2011 10:12 AM

hah, yeah sorry my bad.

I meant 2.8MB/s

yes, around ~2800kpbs!!!! That's just the Maximum Download speed I've went so far in these few days..

but I've been using Shaw Extreme for a long time, never got anything over 1.6MB/s.. so 2.8MB/s in the first week was a pleasant suprise!

Also, for those of you who are concerned about speed on wireless connection.. I was averaging around 21Mbps on my wireless N network!

:) the Telus Optic TV is also a lot more responsive than Shaw Cable TV.. there's almost no "lag" when you flip channels.. although I almost never watch TV, I find the Telus Optic TV is a lot better than Shaw.

There is a such a company and that is Novus which has its own fibre optic infrastructure.

But, guess what? It is only profitable for them to wire high-density neighbourhoods, like apartment buildings. Canada is a big country dominated by single-family houses, so companies need a whack of money (or government subsidies) to establish infrastructure. This is why countries in Asia have an advantage in telecommunications - population density.

If laying underground fiber optic is too costly, they should consider setting up WiMAX.

ilvtofu 02-07-2011 11:08 PM

fucking telus took 3 months to ship out the xbox for my gf it's still not here yet, at least they're installing a pvr for free but still BS

Meowjin 02-08-2011 02:40 AM

call q media solutions not telus. They are located in richmond so it should only take 2 days.

Razor Ramon HG 02-19-2011 04:44 PM

Does anyone else have epic lag spikes when a phone call is received or placed?

I get frozen in HoN for like 3-5 seconds. It's fucking annoying.

snowball 02-19-2011 05:30 PM

^ call telus and complain

tell them to install a POTS splitter at the access point, it filters the internet from phone service, it's supposed to be installed but probably wasnt if your tech was lazy

TheInfiniti 02-19-2011 05:41 PM

I'm using Shaw right now and I get a lot of drops in terms of speed and reliability. I'm looking into switching to Novus when I move out though. Anyone have anything to say about Novus? Good or bad, doesn't matter.
