If you do this you need to make sure you disconnect the telus drop from your inside wire. Not sure you wanna feed the 52 volts into your phone system.

there's no method to turn off powerboost

skholla 10-31-2010 06:03 PM

try finding a longer bandwidth test, powerboost only bursts for 20secs or so, get a longer test to offset the bursting.

I just put in my order online tonight. I'll be saving $9/mo with Telus, as opposed to Shaw, and I'll probably just sell my Pace 160gb PVR. Probably the Xbox too. :p

wow you got that in the afternoon? I was struggling just to get onto RS in econ today :( it's pretty inconsistent eh? I gave up halfway and plugged in my phone to tether

Just switched the gf from shaw to rogers saving about 20 after tax and free xbox :D
I'll be over a lot more often ;) pretty neat how you can use the xbox as the pvr

Meowjin 11-03-2010 11:24 PM

rogers is doing internet in bc again?

saveth 11-03-2010 11:31 PM

rogers has been in the area for a while. I was on rogers about 2 years ago and they only offered adsl. It was terrible... shaw>telus>rogers

Meowjin 11-03-2010 11:35 PM

are you sure? I'm pretty sure them and shaw had an agreement.

also, if i call shaw can I ask for an xbox 360? I've heard to much bad things about telus.

Meowjin 11-06-2010 01:05 PM

I can tell I'm not going to have a fun experience with telus. I signed up on their site for the xbox bundle, and 2 days later I have not had a call back. So I'm calling today. I'm goign to ask if it's a guaranteed 15mb's.

nns 11-06-2010 01:12 PM

LOL guarantees? This isn't some business line, it's a residential internet service. They don't need to guarantee anything. You want guaranteed speed, you're going to have to pay more. There is no SLA with a regular home internet service.

Did you just get internet? IF so then over your wired connection you should get 15 meg. If you got tv as well and are on a vdsl port you will still get 15, but if you are on a 2+ port the speed will vary based on how many streams you are accessing for tv. It does say on the website speeds "up to" 15M.

Rogers was leasing telus lines to provide service, They have pretty much stopped residential and only have some business customers here. The problem with them as a provider was if you had trouble you called them and then they called us, then we checked to demarc only and then called them and then one of their techs would come out to fix it. You can see how that could be a bit of a wait for repair.

Telus guarantees 1.5Mbps. Obviously that's not saying much. I'm going back to Shaw when this contract expires. Oh well, got a free wi-fi router. :)

Make sure you are not getting a free rental. They will charge you if it is not returned.

Alatar 11-14-2010 03:27 PM

Oh so funny. What a great start to my Telus experience! Was supposed to have services installed today, between 8am-5pm. Got the call about 2 minutes ago that they were running behind today, and won't be able to make it. So, next Saturday is the day I _should_ have them here first thing in the morning.

At least I made sure I had a bit of overlap with my Shaw services for a week. Kinda had the feeling this might happen. :lol

Telus guaranteed me 6Mbps minimum for Optik over the phone if I had all my TVs running, I've been getting 10ish consistently for the last month with HDTV on

tgill 11-15-2010 02:30 PM

The debate will soon be over, as Shaw has begun charging people for going go over the measly 120gb bandwidth cap.

http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r249...xtra-bandwidth.

Cman333 11-15-2010 04:13 PM

I've used both.

On Telus now at home. Its ok. Slower than Shaw.

We just switch from Telus to Shaw at the shop and huge difference.
