I guarantee you, they do not.

I guarantee you, they will. They are already testing this in Edmonton, a relative got a warning on the bill that they would be charged next time they went over. Its just a matter of when the new hardware is installed in our areas.

Our family is currently using Telus for our home phone and internet services and Shaw for basic Cable (+Fairchild channels).

Total we pay for our monthly bills comes to about $111/month before tax.

Gave telus a call today lady on the line was really nice. At first I thought she was giving me a deal but when I looked at the pricing and stuff it was pretty much the standard/similar to what I was paying already >_>;

I was offered under a 3 Year Term:
PVR, Xbox360
Home Phone: 37$ (Dad needs the 5 calling features for home business)
Internet on High Speed Turbo 30$ (would be changed to the optiks equivalent)
Basic Cable: 23$
Fairchild Addon (May range from $12-20 depending on the one we pick)
+5$ a month if I want the Xbox to have the digital cable service

Total would be pretty much equal +/- $10~20 of what I am paying right now.

Upside i see to it is I get an xbox, a pvr (which I dont have right now)
Downside is the contract and I may lose some of the other asian channels my mom watches.

Would it be worth the trouble to make the switch?

Purpose was to hopefully save some money on our monthly bills while getting some better services (Since we haven't done any upgrades in a while). Wondering if I can get a better deal from some of the Telus techs who hang around RS

death_blossom 11-16-2010 06:32 PM

what other asian channels does your mom watch?

and as far as I know, Telus employees can't give out discounts to friends/family.

bakasam 11-16-2010 06:55 PM

She only watches Fairchild.

But heres the thing thats weird

On my shaw bill it says:
Asian TV package = 7$ ( I get Fairchild, The mandarin one and the movie channel)

On the shaw website
Add Fairchild = 18.95
Add Fairchild + Others = 28.95

For Telus:
Just fairchild = $12
Fairchild + Mandarin = 20$

Dont know why the price for just fairchild got marked up so high :S

6insomnia9 11-24-2010 05:28 PM

They giving free xbox on 3 year contracts

nismook 11-24-2010 05:42 PM

Telus now has this Chinese Classic pkg (Fairchild and TalentVision) $15 per month but you get the first 3 months free

Alatar 11-24-2010 07:57 PM

Free xbox is on internet contracts of 2 or 3 years for Optik Internet.

Looks like I'll be jumping ship to TELUS for that first package, paying $95/month for just the Shaw highspeed internet and basic tv/fairchild.

6insomnia9 11-24-2010 08:49 PM

I`m paying about 53 ish for Bell tv and 37 for telus.. ;c

I will be hopping the train within the next couple of weeks.

dboy 11-24-2010 08:53 PM

Does Optik TV essentials only go up to channel 28(Shaw basic cable) in Vancouver?

bakasam 11-24-2010 09:14 PM

Optik TV essential has way more than the basic 28 channels.

Im on optik Essentials and i have channels like TSN2, Food Network, Comedy Central, Teletoon, Spike etc

So i take it you like the switch from shaw to telus?

how fast was the set up?

snowball 11-24-2010 09:31 PM

The free PVR rental is from the 3 year optik TV contract
The free Xbox is from the 2 year optik internet contract

also remember you can't have optik TV without optik internet, so technically you're signing a 3 year contract for the internet too ;)

bakasam 11-24-2010 09:33 PM

No i originally had telus for internet services but i had Shaw for my cable services and switched over and upgraded i guess to Optiks.

Apparently they didnt give me the latest modem/router so i'm waiting for an exchange but so far so good.

Also when i was making the call the Xbox deal ends in november i believe

http://www.speedtest.net/result/1044471031.png

cable splitter right out of the wall, one to PVR/TV, other to shaw phone box, splits again to shaw cable modem.

Meowjin 11-24-2010 11:02 PM

shaw wants me to drop off their stupid modem. Fuck them. so angry at my 3mb download =when i have extreme and them claiming nothing is wrong.

nns 11-25-2010 06:44 AM

Don't drop it off. Be a big shot. They'll probably just charge it on your next bill.

Alatar 11-25-2010 09:47 AM

I've got a Shaw modem collecting dust as of Saturday, and I need to sell off my HDPVR now. I think I'll just stick with Telus, even though I'm only on a 1HD + 2SD setup. I can live without 2HD for now. The internet speeds, while not as good, aren't horrible, either. I've lived with worse.

jtanner_ 11-25-2010 09:51 AM

My family has been considering jumping ship simply because were paying roughly 120-130 a month on shaw and the telus rates seem considerably cheaper...

My only concern is the internet speeds as i keep reading reviews regarding inconsistency

6insomnia9 11-25-2010 10:20 AM

I think Shaw has more down time that Telus, all these years(5) with Telus i only had like maybe 1 or 2 downtime.

But then that is just my assumption.

hotjoint 11-25-2010 10:35 AM

my buddy from shaw hooked me up with this.

84.99 for 1 year

Basic home phone
Extreme-I internet
Digital tv with 1 hd pvr & 3 normal digital boxes with 3 months free movies channels (superchannel, HBO, Movie central)
Getting all the equipment for free 1 year
Paying $16 extra for HD plus (all the hd channels) and $7.95 for 7 specialty channels

If anyone wants a hookup. Shoot me a PM and i'll give you his # ;)

6insomnia9 11-25-2010 10:38 AM

Meh , i don't use any well known company for telephone as it way cheaper to go with ITALKBB which is VOIP, imo i think it is the best bang for your money as it you get unlimited calling around the world for only like 30 something bucks, i forgot how much it was , ill check my bill to comfirm it, i've used it for months now and it works great, no more stupid expensive calling cards that shit adds up.
