I got the Telus 10*3 promo... with some channel selection, DVR rental and stuff comes to about 68 after tax per month.

speed isn't bad in my area. I get constant 1MB~1.5MB/s on BT, and apparently they can't monitor the traffic on my connection because of the IPTV?! I'm pushing a few hundred GB per month easily, streaming everything from home is awesome! :D

Just to let you know this is free for everyone for 3 months if they want it.

The ads are on the radio all the time so that really isn't a hook up

but damn the rest is pretty damn cheap especially the special channels

So i take it you like the switch from shaw to telus?

how fast was the set up?

Setup depends on the house/apartment layout, wiring and number of boxes

Give you have a phone jack by a power outlet and cable jack setup should be pretty quick however that is if you don't have crappy wiring.

Be prepared for 5 hrs but the job can take as little time as 45mins

Alatar 11-25-2010 09:45 PM

The install was ~6 hours for my place, last Saturday. All new wiring, including from the pole to the house.

damn that's expensive. For that exact same package i was paying $66 after tax, then i called in saying i want to switch and ended up getting $36/month now for highspeed net + basic cable + talentvision

But then that is just my assumption.

I've had 2 downtime in the 3 weeks I've been with them, both for over 8 hours

6insomnia9 11-25-2010 11:38 PM

I never get downtime ;D

bakasam 11-25-2010 11:50 PM

Setup for me took ~2 hours so it does vary by house the person on the phone says up to 5-6 hours though

Konvict 11-25-2010 11:57 PM

zero issues with telus... got optik its dope! prob depends on where you live tho. got shaw to almost match in terms of price.. was lieke $80 compared to telus $65... but telus gave xbox and setanta for $5 p/m so it sold me lol

I work for Shaw so our service is superior.

a lot of things come down to the price point unfortunately

2damaxmr2 11-27-2010 02:01 PM

Our high speed is only 37bucks and it is over twice as fast as the telus high speed internet. 7.5mb/s vs 3.1mb/s

Meowjin 11-27-2010 02:45 PM

except when i've called shaw 15 times to wonder why my internet is 4mb when I'm paying for 15, they refused to send a tech over saying that it's suppose to be like that and it's suprising i notice.

well no shit

Alatar 11-27-2010 07:18 PM

$37 for 15mbit, you say? Funny, that... I was paying $47/mo. $57 for Shaw Extreme when I decided to switch to that. The speed difference for Extreme-I wasn't as noticeable in the downstream, but in the upstream where I went from .52 to .96mbits compared to Telus, where I get ~14.4 down, .86 up for $37/mo.

The key points to realize with both Shaw and Telus, their service says "Up to 15mbps" not that you're guaranteed that speed. In the case of Shaw, I was getting 14.8mbps at the best of times, with it consistently being lower, around 11-12mbps. To me, neither is better, but the price I'm paying for the same speed from Telus is enough to make me feel like I'm at least getting the same for less money than with Shaw.

When I spoke with Shaw before I was considering moving to Telus, Shaw wasn't willing to budge for me. Months later, I decided after a couple of weeks of research to give Telus a try. When I called Shaw to inform them that I was cancelling my service, only then were they willing to match Telus' price, but not their offers of service credits for signing a 2 year contract. The xbox, obviously, they weren't willing to match.

The funny part? The lady on the Shaw line tried telling me the xbox would die within a year anyway.

I haven't had any issues with Telus yet, besides the 1HD + 2SD feed, but for the amount I watch TV, I'm not really affected by it too greatly.

Price comparison:
Shaw
Shaw Extreme-I Internet $57
Shaw HD Digital TV $62.95
HD Plus $16
Simple Double Play Discount -$10
Total Monthly $125.95, w/tax $141.06

Telus
Optik Digital TV Pick Your HD $75
Optik High Speed $37
Total Monthly $112, w/tax 125.44

Saves me nearly $16/mo

If it dies within the year you are covered under warranty.

never had an xbox, but wondering can't you just buy it and when it fails, register it with Microsoft then wait a few weeks and tell them it broke down? Or do they do it by purchase recepit, in which case you could just tell Microsoft it was a free gift no receipt ??

I did this with my logitech steering wheel, didn't register it and then when I felt the pedals squeaking I thought they would break down soon I registered and called them they ended up sending me brand new set of pedals, AND I got to keep the old set which had nothing wrong with it really except a minor squeak

All I know is microsoft is covering the warranty. It would be up to them to determine the purchase time , but I am sure they would probably ask for some sort of proof of when you got it. Logitech from what I have heard is great for warranty.

I've used Telus Optiks tv for a week now. Originally they gave me a Dlink Router + modem setup which worked well but the wireless network wasn't that great on it.

Huge props to Mr.Jay  who was willing to exchange it for the latest model after the Telus Call center/Technician wouldn't . Installed it tonight and it works perfect.

Waiting for my xbox now :)

Meowjin 11-28-2010 11:25 PM

is it the n router one? I asked for when when my installer came the second day (somethign wrong with the code) and he dropped it off even though he had to go back to the office to get it.

good shit.

It would be the n one (actiontec), it is the only other one used for tv.

bakasam 11-28-2010 11:52 PM

Yep its the actiontec one. My installer told me the dlink one was the latest model they gave him and he doesn't have it. The call center simply said that the dlink was the "most optimal setup" for me until Mr.Jay told me otherwise

ShyGuy 11-29-2010 12:26 AM

so how do we get in contact with Mr. Jay? I've got the crappy D-Link router and tried calling in for the Actiontec. The phone rep told me they don't have it.

Meowjin 11-29-2010 02:32 PM

how long does the xbox take*?
