Just a warning for everyone, try to fill your tires with air at home cuz a lot of the gas station's air compressors are broken. I know quite a number of the chevrons air pumps are fucked and most of the gas stations with working air charge 50 cents to a dollar per fill.

MindBomber 11-23-2010 12:20 AM

I've seen quite a few that charge for air compressors, but the proceeds go to charity. I don't mind that..

FUUUUUU. I was thinking of going to chevron to pump some air into the tires. Which ones are busted??

MG1 11-23-2010 06:00 AM

Nevermind busted. I posted a warning about air from some gas stations spewing out water with the air. It was over a year ago, but one of them was the Shell station on Kingsway near Boundary on the Burnaby side. More water than air. I just happened to notice because I didn't have the air hose head placed on the valve properly. Good thing, because I would have had so much water in the tires. This was over a year ago, so perhaps they fixed it. I always check now or try to fill the tires with the trusty compressor at home. Free isn't always a good thing, I guess. BTW, how bad is water in tires?

hk20000 11-23-2010 06:16 AM

Pumps at all shell locations are free....just see if you can find one that still works in this weather.

You will get water vapor in your air even with your trusty compressor at home, unless you have some sort of air dryer/water separator system.

RevRav 11-23-2010 07:11 AM

Knowing weather network's reliability, I wouldn't be surprised if this change later on, but other than the 5-10cm of snow forcasted for Thursday.... they are always predicting 1-3 cm on Wednesday

Yes, I have one of those oil/water filter thingys installed, plus I open her up at the bottom on a regular basis. Gotta protect me air tools.

Yeah, Calgary is apparently the 2nd coldest place on earth today... next to the South Pole. Suddenly -10 doesn't seem so bad anymore. :)

Enough water will throw your balancing off at high speed, but a few bottle cap fulls is not going to hurt anything.

If you have steelies they might rust a little tho...

ilvtofu 11-23-2010 12:12 PM

Man wash world in Richmond is pretty fucked up. Right where the galeforce dryer is is a huge ice puddle/lake and it takes a while to get through. Luckily I have winter tired but Tcs was screaming and car was still swaying side to side. The prius in the other bay with winters stood still for a while and she was given an extra free run lol.

I'd say the ice patch is abt 2 or 3 ft long and about 6ft wide. Don't go if you don't have awd/winters :/

At least car came out pretty clean and yes it froze a lot. Just a bit of water mark from where the ice froze but pretty happy for a $6 job
