Do some people not understand the risk of walking up or down an icy hill especially if I need the momentum to go up, I won't stop my vehicle for you lol

HonestTea 01-02-2017 09:48 PM

Joyce area is so fucked..every street is coated in black ice..

fliptuner 01-02-2017 09:57 PM

The sidestreets and alleys in eastvan don't even require steering. Just get into the ruts and let Jesus take the wheel.

Mckay by David Gray park is so sketchy....

jnesss 01-03-2017 12:26 AM

wendy's on grandview and boundary.

yesterday, i tried turning in from grandview, saw an suv with hazards slowly coming down the ramp trying to exit. waited for a while for them to come out, got impatient, proceeded towards the boundary entrance instead. drove in, tried to loop around the restaurant to get to the drive through. well, i found out the reason for why the suv was exiting onto grandview so slowly. anyhow, sliding down the ramp side ways was not fun, noped the fuck out of there.

Couldn't even make it up a moderate hill with the sheet of ice with my Xi-2s.

Crazy....I probably could have made it with a running start but could have also steered into the parked cars beside.

I was driving down Grandview yesterday and saw some cop cars blocking off one of the side streets near the Canadian Tire. Took a peek and there were a couple of cars that were sideways (presumably from sliding down the street). I'm guessing anything north facing isn't getting a whole lot of sun to melt.

I was driving down a back lane yesterday with a slight decline and even with my Xi3's I still slid a good 10 feet on some ice when braking. Be careful out there and leave a lot of extra room - even if you've got some winter tires!

On a seperate note, anyone know anywhere that's still got snow shovels? I've managed to break both of my shovels over the last week shoveling snow. Checked a bunch of places around Vancouver and everyone is out. :flamemad:

Dont go over speed bumps or driveways at angles, my car flexed a little bit this morning and now i have a tiny crack in my windshield

ilovebacon 01-03-2017 08:56 AM

thankfully, i can turn off traction controls and drift around small corners :p

whitev70r 01-03-2017 09:16 AM

On my way out this morning, saw a guy throwing hot/warm water all over his car to defrost or melt the ice. :noyoudidnt:

Reminds me of some guy I saw over the weekend chipping away at the couple inches of ice/snow on his windshield with what looked like a license plate frame. #fail

Took me 5 minutes to exit my neighbourhood today, what should usually take 30 seconds.

ABS kept kicking in every time I tried to stop. Even at 10 km/hr. Tried to stay away from any hills.

I can still see all the blade marks on the round-a-bouts from the neighbourhood kids ice skating during the weekend.

yesterday canadian tire at byrne had several basic ones at $10.99. they didn't seem to be flying off the shelves but a few people were walking out with them. not as bad as the line up for bags of salt :lol

Watching the game last night I saw Wendy's 4 dolla double stack deal. Had to try it, so here I am at the Grandview and Boundary location, parked next to the tree there to shade me from that blinding sun. Anyway, the parking lot is absolutely frozen and dangerous. As I open up the bag to get the burger out I see from my side mirror this Civic skidding out of control toward me. Driver was going way too fast for the conditions. After he comes to a complete stop, he tries to go up the hill. He was going nowhere. Total douche. I roll down driver,s window and give him the thumbs up. Looked like he didn't have snows. Save money and park there. No need to pay good money to see a circus. This is free and way more entertaining.

Woe, thanks for tip ... that is helluva deal! Just checked - double cheeseburger(or 5 piece nuggets), fries, and drink for $4. And at that location, some free entertainment to boot!

bcuzracecarz 01-03-2017 11:29 AM

There were kids full blown playing ice hockey with skates on my street in Langley last night, it's about a 2 inch thick ice rink lol

dat_steve 01-03-2017 11:42 AM

My condo also has an underground carwash that only closes for January/february so I usually do it there, other than these couple months of cold. Shell touchless on Dunbar and 49th(?) is a good one too. You have to ask for it to be touchless though.

What's the place in North Van called?

There's also a touchless (with under carriage spray) in Coquitlam on Lougheed near North Road called Wash World. Probably an ice rink by now though.

I went on the cold snap week just before the second dump of snow in December and my traction control light came on a few times as I was slowly exiting the wash bay as the car was being dried.
