Needed to transfer the Z to the "work" garage. Thank you rain for washing a lot of the salt!

About time.

If they're going through the trouble of handing out warnings, just ticket them. It should be pretty cut and dry if their sidewalks are cleared or not.

Crazy video shows what happens on BC's highways "when things go sideways" in winter (VIDEO) | Daily Hive Vancouver

Bouncing Bettys 01-10-2017 12:14 PM

^I always take HWY 1 instead of the Coq in winter. The weather doesn't hit it as hard and people tend to take it slower and safer. For me, going down that snowshed hill on the Coq in anything less than dry conditions, gets my stress levels up easily.

dboy 01-10-2017 12:37 PM

I took that road back to Van on Jan 1st and luckily the roads were clear and nothing like that.

RRxtar 01-10-2017 01:15 PM

Everyone seems to think the Canyon is the safer winter highway but thats because its more likely to not be getting hit by a storm. IMO, the Canyon and Hope-Princeton are only better routes IF they have NO snow.

If all 3 highways are getting winter weather, the Coke is a much much safer highway. It gets priority heavy plowing, its completely divided, is 2-3 lanes wide, and generally fairly straight with more gradual bends not sharp corners, and less fall to your death because no road barriers along cliffs. Simply the fact that it is divided is good enough to keep me from taking the Canyon.

Also, if all 3 are getting snow, the Coke is probably getting dryer snow (better to drive on) while the Canyon is getting that ugly wet shit with -2* temps that freeze into packed snow/ice.

Zedbra 01-10-2017 03:49 PM

I drove the Coq today and it was mostly clear - one lane was always clear and the other lanes had some snow or ice. Really strong crosswind though; the ass of my truck was blown sideways a little bit twice while on an icy section. That got my palms sweating

Then the Fraser would flood in the spring......... caused by late melting of snow packs up in the mountains. From skating to drowning. Mother Nature is a bitch.

they would flood because they didn't have dykes built like they have now

But I didn't choke - I went through like a boss. The Dodge riding my tail almost went into the bank, so he slowed right down.

Anyways, watch for the shaded areas on the Coq. I was reading that the 99 by Whis was shut down today from ice as well.

So I'm in my house getting ready to go out and I hear revving outside. I go out to my car and i can now tell, from the revving, that a few houses down, someone is stuck. What do I see when I get my eyes on it? A G63 :fulloffuck:

I bring the guy a shovel, so he can dig himself out. While he's digging, I'm checking out the tires. Tons of tread, but then I check the sidewalls and they're summer tires :seriously: I tell him he's stuck because he's on summers, but he thinks it's because it's icy.

So I just stand around watching him dig a bit then rev some more, dig again and rev even more. The engine noises from that thing :sweetjesus::megusta::tears:

He eventually got out and we went our ways.

Went to wash my car last night and couldn't find a place open because of the cold weather. This was never an issue when I lived in Kamloops but I never noticed the car washes down here don't have automatic garage doors to prevent freezing. Anyone know a car wash, preferably not automated, which is open and not a rip off in the Aldergrove/Langley/Abbotsford area?

thumper 01-11-2017 07:39 AM

i can't think of any carwash without open self-wash bays

MG1 01-11-2017 07:52 AM

I went to the place in the Hastings and Kensington area yesterday. Right next to the Tim Hortons. I was driving the truck, so didn't care how good or bad the wash was. To my surprise, it wasn't bad for 7 bucks.

Not in the area you mentioned but the one on Royal Oak and Imperial in Burnaby is open. I was there last night washing my car. $2 for like 3 and a half mins.
