I don’t even need to think about it, I’d say that yes most people are not prepared for winter. A way to stay warm and cook with no electricity, a store of food and water, salt, shovels, etc etc.

From the way people were fighting each other and taking BUCKETS of salt the other year, yeah I doubt more than half are prepared.

Been lightly snowing in Squamish since 10am, now it is coming down pretty steady and there are 3" on the ground already. Expecting 12" tonight and another 5" tomorrow.

90km/h winds. Planes and boats don't work too well in that. Although my car shelter is trying really hard to take flight right now

On the main roads yes, but i guess its somewhat of a blessing, stopped me from driving like im invincible out there

So my DWS06+ after a full year of racing c lais, are kind of bad in this icy snow.

Doesn't help that there's a layer of ice under the snow at every intersection.

Manic! 11-29-2022 07:06 PM

Snowing hard in Nanaimo with lots of wind. Power went on and off 5 times in a 10 minute period. It's now been down for over a hour. I have never seen it go on and off like that. Off fir 30 seconds then on for a minute then off again.

Fuck you and your stuck vehicles, especially your fuckers with unprepared rwd cars.

Shouldn't take me 1+ hr to get home when I literally work 2.7km from work. Actually I'm not even home yet. I'm literally trapped. Yeah I'm using my phone in traffic that is literally not even moving after 7 green/red light cycles. Fuck this.

I had to get out and direct a idiot to move around a stuck vehicle. She was too scared to go around holding up willingdon south for a good 30 mins.

Recently I replaced my 09 Corolla with a similar 2011, after a rear-ending write off accident (I was hit at a red light). I've got a fresh set of Michelin winter tires on it. Before this, I had never owned a vehicle with traction and vehicle stability control. I don't know what role they play compared to the tires, but this car drives completely different in these conditions. Its like night and day compared to the old car. From constant white knuckle driving on past their prime studded winters, to having fun and hunting for challenging roads with the new tires. I missed having fun driving in the snow.

whitev70r 11-29-2022 07:20 PM

WTH?

VSC and traction control are hax. Once you know how they operate, it gets really fun to exploit them. Especially, in the snow.

Pretty much in one form or another.

Mid 2000's, it seemed like an option. I think post-2010s, it became more standard. However, the economy lines usually got the earlier generation versions of those safety features.

I haven't read thread but I'll give you guys a tl;dr of my 7 hours and counting commute. Some of you may have seen my live updates on WhatsApp lol

Left work at 3:30pm - Bridgeport area in Richmond
Took River road to Westminster
Stuck on the Westminster to 91S merge at 4:20pm

Continued to be stuck in the same spot until 8:20ish.

Moved incrementally by a few car lengths every hour.

I'm not even at the end of the merge yet and it's been over 7 hours since I left work.

I'm only 3km away from home but I haven't even got on the Alex Fraser yet - which is closed. Btw there are no exits from Westminster off ramp and on.

Gerbs 11-29-2022 10:01 PM

How'd you pee

JSALES 11-29-2022 10:02 PM

This was my commute coming from the airport. It took me almost an hour just to reach the Arthur Laing bridge because of these cars stuck on the road. My 30 minute drive home took me over an hour and a half.
