Like I think this just highlights not how unprepared people are, but just how completely shit people are at driving. With a FWD you can basically feel your way along in most cases if you have tires with any sort of traction imo

Even in RWD cars with ok all seasons you have to be basically brain dead to do as badly as people did.
The amount of “turn the wheels to full lock and mash the gas” I saw people doing to get unstuck was fuckin incredible

That's only if they had the heater blasting during that 8 hrs. No different than a gas car with the motor running for 8 hrs.

My 240km range Leaf left started with 97% charge.
Was down to 95% after running the heater to warm the cabin while I cleared all the snow off.

Left the house in Pitt Meadows around 5:30 and made it to 8 rinks before 7 with a few stops in between, was down to 53% charge and that was with the heat blowing the whole time.
Made it home with 20% charge.

Good thing I was using google maps and avoided all the bad traffic spots.

the wildest moment was while stuck infront of IKEA , a corolla hatch heading west bound smoked the center meridian while on the HOV (I was on HOV east bound). Saw it happen and clearly people didnt adjust their driving to the climate. At the time, both west and east bounds were unplowed.

also tailed a SN95 mustang buddy that was using HOV while he was alone.. got stuck right after gaglardi skidding everywhere... roll past him, saw his rear tires - super old winters... gave me a glare and direct eye contact as I moved by him on the right...

and icing on the cake, lady driving a newer chrysler 200 infront of me... jumped out of her car, dropped her pants, did an immediate squat and did probably the longest public relief ever...... steam and all.

holy crap that was a rodeo and a half last night.

This sounds a lot more entertaining than my night. I think our journey was a solid piece of entertainment for a lot of people.

I think most of the unprepared cars were on Hwy 1 not on 91/Alex Fraser. That said it's a little hard to judge how prepared people are when we're parked for like 10 hours lol.

Most of the bullshit that I saw came from Hyundai's with "no farmers no food" stickers who were tailgating, cutting people off, just to get stuck in the same parking lot.

- There was a Hyundai SUV, probably all seasons skidding everywhere on the connector. A newer gen mustang, that sounded like it had marbles rattling in a tincan, pulled off to take a rest and proceeded to get stuck in the snow.
- Two Model 3's , a pedo panel van, a box truck, several civics, a TRD Celica, and a surrey spec G37 were ditched at the side of the road / emergency stop area. Good on them tbh.
- There was a 10th gen civic and a Prius ditched in the middle lane on 91 by the Westminster overpass. A caravan and other american car ditched in the middle of the Alex Fraser.
- A semi truck was jackknifed and spinning trying to get out on the bend before the bridge. Granted he was probably stuck because the 9th gen civic in front of him didn't have a driver in it LOL
- Several semi-trucks stuck on the Annacis Island on-ramp on the 91EB to New West side. A fuel tanker just gave up - he was probably stuck there since 8PM and he was still there when I crawled out of view at 2AM.

Started the evening with 75% tank. Ended with 50% tank.

Surprisingly, EV's use very little power when sitting stuck in traffic as long as you don't have the heater on, no different than a gas car.

I was SMRT and made sure my car was mostly charged up preparing for the snow.

tofu1413 11-30-2022 02:09 PM

It was a bit entertaining on hwy 1.

Buddy was swiping on tinder :lawl:

plusssssss we got the older Need For speed + Gran Turismo music going... so it wasn't that bad for entertainment :lawl:

My short range Soul EV did pretty alright - the heater drops the range a bit, but it'll take a long time before the heater will deplete the battery in a standstill based on what I was seeing. I think it can handle a 12-hour standstill at a comfortable temperature without a problem (not that I want to try).

When you're stuck in traffic for 8 hours when it's cold as fuck out being able to leave the heat on the whole time is a big selling point to me

The shops ARE busy. Got into accident Oct 19, but fortunately car was still somewhat drive-able. Shop told me to bring it in on Nov 22, and just got it back today.

8 days including a weekend is not a busy turnaround time is it?

I landed minutes after this happening. It’s a stupid ass corner, especially in a big airplane when the taxiway is covered in snow. Very poor design airport wise.

Imagine the feeling of plowing while steering in a 777 lol

I’d be a nervous fucking wreck with that range anxiety.
Hell id probably just ditch the car and walk if the highways were stuck like that.

Sorry, to clarify I went to the shop on Oct 21 and they asked me to bring it back on Nov 22.

Sounds crazy, my sister's coworker had to sleep at work because she couldn't get home!

I actually think that would have been a better option for many. Or do a DT hotel, it would be worth every penny. But no one knew that all the bridges and Hwys would be so effed.

Ordered a shovel off Amazon and some traction aid for tires in case I ever get stuck, or see someone that needs help

Also gonna keep a bunch of munchies in the whip too just in case lol

A co worker in Edmonton mentioned that their winters are much colder than what we experience here in the Lower Mainland.

How cold is it in Edmonton now? Minus 33C because of the wind chill. :lawl:

That’s basically everywhere in canada other than southern BC. I know the old it’s not the heat it’s the humidity comment gets old, but it really feels way colder here at -5 than edmonton at -15.

Hondaracer 12-01-2022 10:07 AM

A Kamloops -15 sometimes feels warmer than a Vancouver 1 deg imo

underscore 12-01-2022 10:37 AM

Humidity and wind are the killers. I'll take a dry, calm -30 over a wet or windy -10.
