Samsung Google Nexus S Thread!

I'm pretty excited for this thing! Gingerbread 2.3, NFC, curved display, 480x800 Super AMOLED...the list goes on.

Dropping Stateside on Dec 16th.

I. Fucking. Want.

MaximalLazy 12-06-2010 01:23 PM

When is it dropping Canadaside

Tim Budong 12-06-2010 01:35 PM

no clue
but if ur on wind/mobilicity
just go down to the US and buy it
im a little bit disappointed buy this phone. It doesn't bring much improvement to the current gen of Android devices.

It seems to me that this is Google's push to have Android working well on those cortex processors as the SGS just had issues with the software on the SGS lines.

This phone doesn't bring much improvement over the N1 aside from the different processor and the NFC chip. We will see.

I will pick this up tho once the HSPA version gets released

Gt-R R34 12-06-2010 02:16 PM

Where can i buy it in the states??

Tim Budong 12-06-2010 02:20 PM

Best Buy for 529 USD

question: what exactly is NFC for??

and how will it be different from my Galaxy S? (other than the fact that I hope they will have the GPS sorted out in this new "flagship")

Vulcan300 12-06-2010 03:17 PM

Shouldn't this phone work on Bell, Telus, Rogers, Wind and Mobilicity?

What advantages does a curved display have over a flat one?! I'm not too familiar with Android or the phone itself but I was just curious because this one seemed to catch my attention

J____ 12-06-2010 03:54 PM

lol it's like the exact same phone as my SGS, except for cosmetic changes. Hopefully the GPS isnt fuked up.

well whoever was in charge of rolling out 2.1/2.2 for the SGS has gotta get their shit together

but now its the google devs with their hands on the NexusS, it will be much better. and it will be rooted in no time

jeff19 12-06-2010 04:15 PM

this is what the Galaxy S should've been in the first place. PURE android experience, move aside nexus one!

It does, but for HSPA speeds, you'll have to go on Wind/Mobilicity. Otherwise on Bell, Telus, Rogers, Fido it's going to max out on GPRS speeds for data.

It's more like an enhancement on the perceived usability of the screen. Things that come to mind are things like "the natural arc of the thumb", "better angle of screen vs. eyeballs", "wraps around face better"....etc.

!MiKrofT 12-06-2010 04:34 PM

NFC = near field communications

Think of it has super short range highspeed communications. ie.Bluetooth but ~4" apart. AFAIK. Somebody jump in if I'm wrong :)

hongy 12-06-2010 04:54 PM

Anyone planning to switch?

SkinnyPupp 12-06-2010 05:12 PM

I'm kind of glad the specs aren't crazy, seeing as I just bought a Desire HD :D

Should feel better against your face, easier to type on and hold in hand.

definately, it's bs 2.3 is almost out and we dont even have an official 2.2 wtf

but the nexus S being pretty much identical to the galaxy S, i'm confident you'll be able to flash whatever comes out for the nexus S to the vibrants

willystyle 12-06-2010 07:45 PM

I read that the multimedia aspect of this phone is lacking compared to its predecessor.

Then it must be true! :troll:

Seriously though, how would that even be possible

willystyle 12-06-2010 09:12 PM

Not sure, read it straight from gsmarena.

Tim Budong 12-06-2010 10:01 PM

multimedia aspects of 2.2 wasnt great to begin with
there are MANY alternatives to media players on these phones so it honestly does not matter

and its quite embarrassing that Samsung took forever to up the SGS line to 2.2. but keep in mind, 2.1/2.2 still sucks for whatever reason on that cortex hummingbird processor. Now that the ASOP 2.3 is natively able to support that hummingbird processor means that a 2.3 port to SGS devices could happen sooner rather than later.

2.3 has been ported to Droid Eris already, N1 should be soon before the release of the Nexus S

Tim Budong 12-06-2010 10:07 PM

anyways to double post..
its really shitty that N1 owners get shafted on a flagship app in G-maps 5
argh!!!

1 use for it is you can go to a retailer and wave your phone at a register to pay for your item. Kinda like a fast pay pass.
