Anyone else have the problem of the phone not being charged to 100%? When mine says it's charged and I unlock it it tells me it's sitting at 94%. Is this common?

my brother said he had the same issue, and he just plugged it back in and then it said 96%

clowe 05-22-2011 03:39 PM

Same thing on mine, always stops at 95/96%

jeff19 05-22-2011 04:09 PM

Mine sits at 95/96 as well. not necessarily a bad thing though, as it helps prolong the life of the battyer.

your battery will never charge to 100% since it's most likely programmed it to stop charging at around 94% to protect the battery from overcharging.

if you REALLY want 100% though, set your screen to never turn off while plugged in and just leave the screen on while charging. WiFi on will also help. after ~3-4 hours your phone will eventually reach 100%. It's called bump charging, and highly not recommended to do daily.

!MiKrofT 05-22-2011 04:28 PM

Really depends on the phone and it's charging policy. Some manufacturers will charge to 100% and then let it drop a bit before charging again. It's to prolong life of the battery. My Desire used to do that but after I replaced the kernel it tops at 100 until I unplug. So it can be normal.

Just wondering, what apps/widgets are you guys using to customize the UI? I'm not rooted and I don't think i will bother to do it...stock 2.3.4 is pretty good

jeff19 05-22-2011 07:56 PM

Some of the widgets i use:

beautiful weather
CircleLauncher Light (nice folder app)
Clarus Battery
PlayerPro (Best Music player in the market so far IMO - recognizes folders so you dont have to create playlists)
Power Control Plus
Pulse (News widget)
SiMi Clock

On another note, has anyone found a screen protector that doesn't bubble? I bought the SGP oleophobic and they still bubble for me...

dasani604 05-22-2011 08:22 PM

look in the POST YOUR HOMESCREENS thread of the Android Themes section in xda. You'll see clean homescreens with widgets you may like.

Anyway,
Desktop Visualizer
Calengoo
Fancy Widget Pro weather
MIUI modified clock
SMS Unreadcount
Launcherpro Plus 10x10

I used quite a bit of stuff to customize my UI... I'm rooted so my customization went in pretty deep... list to follow:

ROM: SuperAOSP 8.0 GB 2.3.4 with Battery Circle 2 theme
Launcher: GO Launcher EX with Metal theme, 4 home screens, 5x4 grid size, with 2 looping dock rows
Wallpaper App: Wallpaper Set & Save to bypass Android's stupid forced resize
Icons: Color icons from XDA-Dev, Folder Organizer for custom folders
Font: Sweeep pushed with ADB system wide

I didn't bother to list the other widgets since it's all user dependent anyway... Go to the XDA-Dev forum and start from the Android Themes section. Nexus S has a specific one too.

If you wanna go deep into customization, i think you have to root your phone with one of the 2.3.4 roms out there. A good base rom will get you miles ahead in terms of customization. MIUI for example is a pretty sick rom to build on. A CM7-based rom will also provide you with quite a bit of custom options that stock Android doesn't provide.

Turn off 3G and connect thrugh WiFi.

Also, after you update, you can go to Settings -> Wireless & Networks -> Mobile Networks and turn Data Roaming off.

The 2.3.4 update fixes the issue where this was required for Fido phones to access the Rogers 3G network and by turning it off you'll avoid accidentally incurring any data roaming charges if you go to the US, etc.

Get an app called Widget Locker on the market and go here for themes
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=968613

jeff19 05-23-2011 03:52 PM

hmm i downloaded widget locker and everything works fine. only problem i have is that when i press the lock button to unlock the phone, the phone makes continuous lock "sounds", as if the button was pressed continuously 10-15 times at a really fast rate. it happens when i plug in the usb cable too... anyone else have the same problem?

hongy 05-23-2011 04:31 PM

^ I had the same problem and it became the reason why I uninstalled widgetlocker

jeff19 05-23-2011 04:55 PM

^ i fixed it by unchecking the unlock/lock sounds in the stock settings, and enabling the sounds in the widgetlocker settings. It looks like widgetlocker only lays on top of the original lockscreen, causing the original lockscreen to show up sometimes. Disappointed that theres no actual lockscreen replacement for android...iphone was able to do it pretty well with jailbreak......

edit: installed 'nolock' which takes away the stock lockscreen. everything works perfectly now :D

My lockscreen

edit: fixed it

jeff19 05-23-2011 07:31 PM

^ name of clock/date widget and slider?

jello24 05-23-2011 07:51 PM

Widget locker's cool to use and makes the phone look so much better, but it interferes with my music player's lock screen. Pressing the lock key would do the annoying Stock Screen > WL Screen > Music Lock Screen and i think WL disabled my Volume Seek controls...

it just does not work well when you have other screens such as music players. Maybe I'll go back to it when i stop listening to music on my phone, or when they make the transition between other screens more seamless.
