Yeah I hear you. My old SE candybar got me through a week on one charge :( BUT BUT it had a 2in screen and Edge :D

IIRC you're running CM7? Certain ROMs give better battery life out of the box. I think the top two are Firefly and Serendipity, but they're just 2.2.1. However with the i9000 GB source released, I would give it 2 weeks before you get some 2.3.3 customs other than CM7 and MIUI.

But yeah anyone comment on the NS battery life? Same as other smartphones? Worse?

Actually, i'm on Serendipity right now. CM7 was sweet...but too much of a drain and slightly unstable.

I installed JD last night and it's fucking awesome!!!!! Thanks for the recommendation.

You're welcome! There's a lot of conflicting reports about it working- but it's one of those things that you have to try and see for yourself. Glad it's working out for you.

Mikroft: Picked up 1 of 3 Koodo Nexus S's at Kingsway Best Buy today. Wasn't a problem buying outright except the guy at the counter was pretty dumb.

Employee: So you know theres no return policy for the phone right? Cause youre buying it outright.

Me: Eh? I have 14 days... it says on your policy.

Employee: I meant warranty, it has to be done through Google cause its a Google phone.

Me: Yeah I know about the warranty but why don't I have a return policy?

Employee: Cause you're buying it outright and we only take them back if their defective..

Me: Uh huh. Thanks *walks away*

Not to mention Samsung makes the damn phones and why the hell would I go through Google.

jeff19 04-20-2011 07:07 PM

^ you should be able to go through either Samsung and Google for warranty. When i had the nexus one, both HTC and Google responded to my inquiries.

Death2Theft 04-20-2011 09:02 PM

Anyone know where to get the skinomi or sgp locally? Heard the zagg was textured and crap. Any other suggestions for screen protectors?

clowe 04-20-2011 09:59 PM

Don't get Skinomi, it's crap. It looks very wavy and gets covered in fingerprints very easily, makes the unlock pattern almost useless cause the fingerprints are so visible on it.

Sweet. Maybe I'll buy one tomorrow. Although I don't really need one lol. No problems with the gift card I assume.

There has GOT to be an easier way to import your ie favorites to the nexus s browser. I already downloaded gmark and installed chrome to import my ie favorites but I STILL can't get it onto my browser on the phone! Talk about frustrating.

JD is that an i9000 ROM with the gingerbread source? I know the captivate is starting to get gingerbread ROMs (besides CM7 and MIUI) since xcal from xda has released that GB kernel of his.

Besides that, it kind of makes me wonder if it's even worth getting a Nexus S over the captivate since essentially all the hardware is the same minus the filesystems (though there's already ext4 fixes for the captivate), especially since the Nexus S is low on aesthetic customization in comparison to the Galaxy S series.

Has anyone tried the SGP screen protectors?

I'm thinking of getting their oleophobic one.

I got mine for my galaxy s i9000, they're pretty good.

I'm using the regular one for the Captivate
However I actually perfer the regular one cause I can swype alot better with it.

You might get some resistance with the olepobic one, but after a days or too you will get use to it.

!MiKrofT 04-24-2011 12:20 PM

It's more than that. They used different GPS design on the Nexus S. As well you have updates right from Google. Sure 2.3.3 may be available now. What about down the road? You'll have to wait for someone to build it.

JD = Juice Defender App

FYI: If you're looking to buy an SGP screen protector get it from the SGP eBay store.
Shipping to Canada on eBay is only $1 VS $4.04 on the SGP website.

JordanLee 04-26-2011 01:58 PM

I got my sgp from the Amazon store but be aware. The size and cut outs are totally off. Its super small and there's major gaps around the edges.

!MiKrofT 04-26-2011 02:31 PM

Weird.. SGP is usually spot on. I always get their protectors whenever possible and haven't had a bad one yet.

mrks 04-27-2011 10:59 PM

Any good camera apps?

The stock camera app sound is bloody loud and I don't know how to disable it, unless I set the phone to silent.

i think the gaps at the top and bottom were purposely cut due to the curved screen. Alot of screen protectors can't seem to stay on on the top/bottom edges.

So has anyone bought screen protectors locally and where? I searched at all local phone retailers and they all said the phone was too new. Don't wanna wait a week for shipping from SGP as well....

cctw 04-28-2011 12:27 PM

^ go to the cellular repair place on 2nd floor of admiralty..same mall where jp cellular is..

they just got it in stock..but then same thing..the edges don't stay on completely cos of the curved surface of the phone...

JordanLee 04-28-2011 01:00 PM

My vib motor makes so much goddamn noise its appalling. I've singled it out to the outer bezel vibrating against the screen, when I apply pressure and set it to vib its dead silent. I tried wedging tissue behind the battery cover to force pressure on that area and no dice. Ill try to exchange at BB this week...hopefully they don't take away my 4000 BB rewards points. That harsh sweetened the deal.

damn.. i just called a couple places at crystal mall and they also have the same problem. Don't manufacturers test them on the phone before selling them :S? I may have to order off SGP online store now..

cctw 04-28-2011 09:25 PM

^i dont think there will be a solution unless some manufacturer is willing to spend the time and money to make a naturally curved screen protector at just the right spots..

JordanLee 04-29-2011 01:03 AM

The curve doesn't even seem like its that big of a deal. Kinda weird.

I'm still using my stock screen protector that came with the phone. You can use your fingernail and scratch off the lettering :)
