I'll try and update this thread today at some point. I've gotten two rides in the CC115 Buffalo and a quick ride in the CH149 Cormorant. Had my camera for both occasions.

How long have you been in training for? Did you have a uni degree before joining? Forces is seriously on my radar right now. I am finishing up my private pilots lic. in the next few weeks and am contemplating joining.

You can enter as a DEO (direct entry officer) if you have already an "approved" university degree.

Your training will consist of 15 weeks basic military training (bootcamp), and then you're on to "flight training". Training can take anywhere from 3-5 years. For myself i'm expecting to hopefully be going to OTU (airframe specific) training within hopefully 2 years which would put me hopefully "fully trained" in three years. Now, this is all arbitrary and depends on your phase 3 decision as well as your specific airframe you decide to fly.

I don't have a uni degree. Which is why I was asking. Digging around on the website looks like you can join and take a airmanship degree or something like that with the military while doing flight training. This whole uni degree thing sucks. Why would I go to school for 4 years if I wanted to join the military? All I want to do is fly. How far in are you?

You do need a degree to be an Officer and Pilot in the CF. The Seneca program you mentioned is a golden ticket if you can get in to it. More than half the kids who have tried have failed out at PFT so it's wide open right now. You'll do two years at Seneca in Toronto and your military training counts as your practicals. You come out with a degree and your Wings all the while being paid as a Commissioned Officer not just a Cadet like RMC. GREAT deal.

Like JD said, if you can get into that Seneca program it's fucking wicked.

Sure looks cool. Not sure if it's the angle or a lens on the second photo but that long nose would be a nightmare in windy conditions. The big nose of the T-33 caused the death of more than a few pilots, especially during crosswind landings.

Srs? Our astronauts all have multiple degrees (graduate level), why should it be any different for a pilot? you're asking to fly an expensive plane here (each worth tens of millions of dollars if not more) and receive costly training. I'd rather make sure we have competent people, not just any joe blow who wants to fly. It is a privilege, not a right.

Nothing like using NORAD assets for fly-by's. :drunk:

They usually have someone on the ground with comms to the pilot. They know how long the anthem is and vector them in at a pre-determined time. I believe the jet just holds over a specific place and does his run when cleared to do so. Most of the time is a shit-show and they show up randomly in the middle of the anthem.

Any of you guys still at the gun squadrons?

I'm curious what the prerequisites are for this program.

Oh hell no, I learned years ago to GTFO for the summer months. I usually do the Comox "tour" then stay in BC a month for leave. June/July is prime hail storm season in Cold Lake.

The CF-18's used definitely weren't ACA birds at that time or else we would have controlled them from Sidecar.

Guess who gets to move to Moose Jaw next Friday, start course on Monday. Should be flying the Harcard II sometime around November... Assuming weather doesn't ground me which it probably will.

Should be an interesting next few years. The current pace of qualified techs releasing is retarded really. Keeping these relics flying takes a lot of maintenance and having less and less people on hand every month is taking its toll.
