I follow 1 rule on all my laptops. If I ever need to plug in I never unplug it unless it's fully charged. Never had to replace a battery yet.

@tosd it's best to start charging when you're at 10-20%
Worst is when you use it while charging it.

To check cycle count: Mac notebooks: Determining battery cycle count

Not saying your method of only charging at 10-20% is better than those that say to always keep it topped up. It's just there are so many different opinions out there regarding battery charging lol. Not sure which is better than the other!

If you use it while being plugged in so that it is always near 100%, does that not add towards your battery cycle? If so that means it would be better to have it plugged in whenever possible since it would slow down battery cycle, prolonging battery life? Or am I completely wrong on that.

13'' macboook pro w/ retina D:

just bought a 13'' macbook air, but still another $400 more for slightly better specs.

Ronin 10-23-2012 12:33 PM

13" retina doesn't really work for me. 15" is JUST big enough and I run it in 1920x1200 mode when working in final cut rather than the native retina resolution.

Can't wait to get a new 27" iMac!!! Hopefully shipment time would work with my new office that is supposedly ready in December!!! Then I can go straight ahead and buy the new version instead of the thicker ones.

I'd rather get the 15". $1699 for a 13" is quite a bit.

So I went out on a limb and bought a wired apple keyboard to replace my gaming keyboard

HNNGGGGGHHHHH

It does not feel as nice as a mechanical keyboard but damn is it comfy for typing.

Any of you guys use a USB hub? If so which one? Does it really matter what kind I get? It will be for my mouse+keyboard for when I'm at home. I need to plug an external drive in too.

Iceman_2K 11-01-2012 07:03 AM

I would suggest getting one that has its own power source, as opposed to one that is drawing from the port. The more devices you have hanging from the HUB, the more power its going to draw.

Whos using the Moshi 13'' iGlaze for their MBA? Ive been using the Speck Satin for maybe a month now, and the rear clip just broke... How is the bottom piece clip design for the rear part of it holding up for you?

Araaadi 11-05-2012 11:38 PM

Hey guys, just wondering, is the 13inch retina mbp, just like the 15inch where the components are welded in?

Razor Ramon HG 11-05-2012 11:45 PM

Hey TOS'd, I've been using my iGlaze with my MBA with no problems.

I got it from compu2000.

basically yes but the trackpad is separate rather then together with keyboard/battery

Is it cheaper than at any of the apple stores? Also are you familiar with how the bottom plate on the speck satin connects to the MBA? Is the iGlaze the same way? Lastly, whats the texture of the case?

Razor Ramon HG 11-06-2012 12:18 AM

I'm not sure, but they didn't have the iGlaze at any Apple Store. I even called places such as Mac Station and Simply. Only compu2000 had any.

It's polycarbonate.

You can find photos of it here. Or if you want, we can meet up on Thursday somewhere and you can take a quick look at it? Hahaha.

You should try 6 headphones I heard that the 6th one always works (srs)

Spoiler!

Did you check your settings in system preferences --> sounds? Maybe its set to mono or something.

Is it just one song? Sometimes if you download music it can download in mono or only left/right channel.

Ronin 11-08-2012 06:36 AM

They'll fix it or exchange. Apple is very good about warranties.

Tim Budong 12-10-2012 02:38 PM

i've been reading, but looking for a 2nd opinion here on RS
