Without the screen, hardware wise Apple hardware is better (assuming you will never want to upgrade or replace your battery, something I have done many times with my laptop). Software wise :heckno:

You can't replace the laptop battery yourself but it is replaceable at the store level for $199. They say it's good for 1000 cycles. I'll believe that when I see it but considering the size and capacity of the battery, that doesn't seem that bad. If 1000 cycles is true, then it's a $199 repair every...2.8 years? Assuming you keep a laptop that long.

SkinnyPupp 06-19-2012 08:30 PM

I've been using the same laptop since 2007, but TBH if I wasn't able to upgrade the ram or HDD, I would have had to abandon it probably.

It is still good for what I use it for. I do wish it could play games, but you'd have to pay at least $2200 for a laptop that plays games, right? :ilied:

.Renn.Sport 06-19-2012 09:12 PM

I could care less about upgrading... i will just buy a new one when the next refresh is out next year.

Iceman_2K 06-20-2012 06:21 PM

I can play diablo 3 and Starcraft 2.....don't need anything else...my current Macbook pro isn't going to change...

Those games are designed to be run on as many computers as possible so the video card requirements aren't as high. Btw what's your battletag? :)

I seriously hope Apple has fixed their lame batteries and MagSafe adapters. They're infamous for being shitty.

kevin7352 06-21-2012 11:31 PM

how so?

skyxx 06-22-2012 02:52 PM

Go google Macbook not charging. etc etc. Happened to mine. It's pretty shitty.

hey guys

getting a macbook pro 13" base model next month.

havent been updated with my macs but when did the current model comeout and when will be the next expected refresh?

if portability isnt a deciding factor would you guys get it over a macbook air? im kind of afraid that the 1xx gb SSD isnt enough space over the next few years as i will be using this laptop for the next few years.

all im going to do on the macbook is listen to music, editing photos now and then and bringing it and using it for work/school.

thanks in advance!

128 GB is pretty low. I would go for the 256bg at least and an external HD. The OS takes somthing like 18 GB of space and Photoshop takes up 2 gigs and then you need space for the scratch disk.

Macbook froze while burning some music onto a cd for personal use, tried to reboot but its stuck on the loading screen with the apple sign and the wheel, in addition to the cd being stuck in the drive. Any suggestions?

Try this:
How To Eject a Stuck CD or DVD from MacBook SuperDrive

or take it to the apple store.

A retina MBP? Base config? Damn, how come it takes that much longer just because mine has 16GB RAM...

Canadian Rider 07-01-2012 02:28 PM

I got the 2012 non retina high end 15" model. First macbook and I'm fucking loving the thing. Probably buy a SSD around Xmas/boxing day when the Samsungs go on sale.

JordanLee 07-01-2012 02:51 PM

Any reports of the 2012 MBAs having their flash modules swapped out for something bigger?

I remember reports of the 2010s and mid 2011s being able to swap out their drives for something a bit bigger but the 2012's have some sort of proprietary connector.

Worth grabbing that over a refurb'd 2011?

nah...the 2012 flash storage have faster read/write speed, faster cpu, better internal graphics, faster ram...i think for the difference of 2-300 bucks, i'd rather for the new one

:lol well, yeah, you can walk into any Apple store and buy an Air but nowhere has stock of the retina and even fewer have 16GB RAM...so my two weeks is on par with what people are saying the wait time is.

lilaznviper 07-02-2012 11:05 AM

Hey guys I have someone with a Mac air. Using a thunderbolt to VGA adaptor in windows and it will not display any output. Does anyone know how to fix this?
