The current gen MBA 11" has virtually the same resolution as the current gen MBP 13". Even though the MBA has a smaller display you can fit just as much on the screen.

Now the MBP 13" is a different story, higher resolution than the MBP 13"...

That's normal the best way to "fix" is to turn off the auto and adjust it manually. The sensor is a bit too sensitive to my liking.

Ronin 07-27-2012 07:48 PM

I couldn't top 10GB of RAM usage...

Armind 07-27-2012 07:55 PM

^ Adobe softwares running fast? That's what matter most to me.

thinking of making the jump from PC to MAC.

still unsure yet...what made you guys decide to switch over?

SkippyLang 07-28-2012 02:20 AM

Going to pull the trigger and get a Pro (no retina for me)

Do you guys recommend the Hi-Res Antiglare Widescreen Display or Hi-Res Glossy Widescreen Display? And should I upgrade the RAM?

.Renn.Sport 07-28-2012 03:47 AM

hi-res antiglare

and since u are not getting the retina, u can still upgrade the ram, so just buy the ram else where

SkippyLang 07-28-2012 07:12 AM

^ Why the antiglare instead? Know any places I can upgrade the RAM? $?

skholla 07-28-2012 09:37 AM

Glossy screen looks great indoors and out of direct light... In bright or outdoor conditions its like trying to use an iPad in the sun, impossible!

Ram is ram, go to NCIX and buy apple compatible ram (even though most "standard" ram works fine) and install it yourself. Last time I checked I saw a 16gb kit, 2x 8gb dimms, going for under $100.

For those of you who did the optibay ssd upgrade how did you go abouts doing it?

I've gone from a smaller hard drive to a bigger one, which was easy since I just made an exact copy of the drives.

But how did you do it going the other way? Did you just reinstall a fresh copy of OSX and moved/redownloaded what you needed? Or moved everything over to a backup drive up to the size of the SSD and then made the direct copy?

NO, definitely not if you use it to buy the mac. You have regular RBC rewards or Avion?.

If you have Avion, wait till British airways have their 1.5X points event then use it. For example, 50,000 BA points will get you a round trip ticket to Hong Kong. Or exchange it to Cathay Pacific Asia Miles and fly to HK for 60,000 or fly business for 120,000 Asia miles.

I know it's off topic but that's how you should use it. If you just have regular rbc rewards then..whatever hahah

Not really racist! 07-29-2012 09:34 PM

^BA 1.5 is on till end of July FYI

skyxx 07-29-2012 09:35 PM

Exactly, if he has avion. Then it's pretty awesome.

It's basically my parents and she never uses it. She has Avion and I believe my dad has the same or regular.

How about the $250 Future Shop GC for 30,000 points?

Not really racist! 07-29-2012 09:46 PM

30,000 pts, 250$ giftcard
50,000 pts, 1000 - 1800$ round-trip airplane ticket..

how is this even a choice..

skyxx 07-29-2012 09:48 PM

Honestly? I'd spend that points on flying strictly. 30K points for $250 GC isn't bad. :)

You can buy an economy ticket from Cathay and upgrade with Asia miles for a round trip Business class ticket. It's only 70,000 points to upgrade. Give yourself a holiday.

tdeweyn 07-29-2012 10:03 PM

I'll think about the flying tickets, but the Future Shop GC so tempting..

J____ 07-29-2012 10:21 PM

pay off your mortgage with rbc reward points.

Macbook Air vs Macbook Pro

I need it for school and I'm going into Electronical Engineering. I'm not quite sure if I will be running any applications but let's just say I might. So any ideas what I should get for school?

Ronin 07-30-2012 12:12 PM

Anyone else update to 10.8?

New features are nice but nothing groundbreaking. Messages is convenient.

I didn't like 10.7 because it felt slower than 10.6, plus they got rid of "save as" and really messed up expose with the application grouping. If you had a bunch of windows open you could not see each window unless you did the application view expose.

I have to say I like 10.8 because they fixed my main workflow issues.
1. It feels fast.
2. "save as" can be enabled, which is better than not having it at all.
3. You can ungroup windows by applications by default in expose.

Still not happy that I can't access my NAS with SMB like in 10.6.

Ronin 07-30-2012 12:44 PM

I don't notice much in terms of speed increases on my rMBP but some things feel smoother like scrolling in Safari or previewing photos in Lightroom.

You'll most likely be using AutoCAD and a few other smaller apps. Something a bit more powerful will help especially with the infamous dreaded AutoCAD.
