SwiftKey Flow Beta Available for Download

Pretty good so far. Takes a bit of time to learn your habits and words but I think it works better than the stock 4.2 swipe keyboard.

Cool, I actually liked the swiping in the 4.2 keyboard, but not the prediction, so I switched back to Swiftkey 3. Hopefully this is the best of both worlds!

R5x 12-06-2012 06:09 AM

I already like the fact that when the swiping fails that I can quickly use the tapping method if needed and get accurate results because I'm so used to using swiftkey. It seems to learn fast too and I find that tapping a word out once or twice is all that's needed for it to allow me to swipe the word next time. The customizable long press delay is also a much appreciated feature that the stock keyboard lacks. Same with the long press backspace that works really well to erase the previous word.

I just downloaded it today to compare against swype which I've been using for a long time. My initial thought was, "Damn flow is so snappy."

My only complaints are that question mark is accessed with a long press, and that when you finish a word, it goes on to predict the next instead of offering options to correct your last word in case you got it wrong.

Otherwise, this looks very promising!

How do i do double letters like "three"? I tried the 'rubbing' thing in swype but it doesn't work.

Also, I guess they had to disable swipe left to delete the last word, is there an alternative to easily deleting the last word?

R5x 12-06-2012 08:51 AM

^Good point. I don't think it has a great way of doing words like 'three' yet because it doesn't have the lift-up-and-repeat method like swype does. It also doesn't have alternative predictions to choose from left and right of the suggested word the way the stock keyboard does so there's no way of getting that word. Hopefully it'll be added soon.

I miss the swipe to delete as well, but the easiest way i found is just to hold down the backspace key. I've decreased my longpress delay to about 250ms or so and I find it works well enough.

So far it seems it's still best to use a combination of swiping and tapping to get your words out properly until they have the suggestions fixed.

Im using Swiftkey flow right now too. Its pretty good so far. It cause a Google Pinyin IME to crash one time though. I dont know why Google Pinyin IME crashed instead of SwiftKey Flow. Weird. It never crashed before.

My firefox runs perfectly fine.

Are you running any add-ons/flash?

ShadowBun 12-06-2012 09:27 PM

nope
nothing

runs totally fine when I'm on wifi
On data though, it rarely loads and is really slow compared to other browsers (ie. Opera, Dolphin, Chrome and even the stock browser).

Is Missed It still the app for a notification counter widget?

sonick 12-13-2012 11:50 AM

Facebook app's gone native, much faster than previous!

Still a damn battery hog. It destroyed my S3's battery life. I'm on the mobile site still...

I'd buy it. If only I could have both the widget and the app in 1 package rather than having 2 separate apps requiring separate logins. Currently using Plume.

hmm, I never noticed FB to be that big of a battery hog.

On the plus, the Widget drawer has been 'fixed' in the newest version of Nova, showing thumbs of the widgets (used to require root access) rather than just a big text list.

It's because it doesn't really show the actual app to cause the battery drain, but it uses system resources in the background to check on Facebook status updates etc. Even when set to not update automatically.

been thinking of trying nova launcher. any good compared to apex?

sonick 01-02-2013 10:43 AM

I tried them both side by side a bit after getting my S3. Not sure if just placebo or something but Nova just felt a touch snappier compared to apex.

PHATFLIP_14 01-02-2013 02:15 PM

do you need to be rooted to use nova launcher? want to try this out for a while now.
