I'm still trying to adjust from Swype..

Swype is working way better for me than SK Flow. The only issues I have with it are:

- Swype uses up too much screen on the tablet compared to SK Flow.
- Swype doesn't predict next word

I go back and forth between the two especially after major updates. Always make my way back to Swype.

I purchased it yesterday and downloaded the Amazon app today and don't see it

You installed the Amazon Appstore? I'm guessing you installed Amazon.com app, instead of the appstore:

To get the appstore, go here from your phone's browser to download the APK:
http://www.amazon.com/getappstore

You'll need to allow the installation unknown sources APKs in your settings since you're side-loading.

So I've been trying to get SNESex 9 working on my FHD Nexus 7 with a Dualshock 3.

Has anyone got this to work without lag or the wrong mappings for the DS3?

Hi, sorry if its been asked before in this thread somewhere.

My brother just recently switched from iphone (3GS lol), to an Android. The default Email app only retrieves emails once every 15 minutes, or manually.

He's looking for one that retrieves emails instantly (Like the IOS; as soon as there is an new email, it alerts him instantly).

I've been using android for years but never really used any email apps at all, as I don't need to check my emails as often as him for work.

May you guys suggest any email apps that can accomplish this? Thank you in advance!

We checked the settings and the "quickest" response is 15 minutes (sync email every 15 minutes). there is no instant, or "push notification"? if thats the correct term.

He doesn't use gmail, so he doesn't want the gmail app if he can avoid it... even though he could still receive other mail through gmail...

Thanks though~ I'm telling him to just do 15 minutes. This whole email thing never bothered me, like I said, I don't really need to get emails instantly. He does for his job though.

mk1freak 09-20-2013 02:33 PM

what email is he using?
the outlook app for Hotmail (and exchange) supports push and so does yahoo mail app, I never use the default email app.

sonick 09-20-2013 02:37 PM

Push notification is a limitation of the email server protocol and the app. If it's accessing email via POP server, you will not be able to get push email notification.

However, the stock email app does not support push email for IMAP even. From googling I've found these possible options:

Runs on one email account only, runs in the background along side stock email app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...dle.free&hl=en

Standalone email app with push notification: https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...aildroid&hl=en

gars 09-20-2013 02:55 PM

AFAIK, unless you're using Gmail or Outlook - you'll need an exchange server to do proper push email.

What sort of mail server are you using?

PuYang 09-20-2013 08:35 PM

Hes using Hotmail for the most part.

Thanks everyone, I'll get him to read over this stuff ;D

mk1freak 09-20-2013 10:20 PM

Why not use ActiveSync with the standard mail app that came with the phone?
Add it in the following way:
go to Settings --> Accounts and Sync --> Add Account --> Corporate... Enter Information

Domain\username: <full e-mail address-- ie: abcde@hotmail.com>
Password: <your password... derp>
Incoming Server: m.hotmail.com **Note, if you have a @live.com account... use m.hotmail.com also!

And there you have it! you now have Push notifications setup and a full sync with Hotmail! (if you read something on your phone... it will be marked read on hotmail, if you delete something, it will be gone on hotmail)

If anything, PM me or post a reply!

This is what I use, thanks to Amuro Ray!

If anyone is interested in a iOS7 theme with transitions, iLauncher is pretty damn close. $2.

I use Contacts+, it replaces the contact list as well - and combines Facebook profiles with it as well, so it'll pull facebook photos and replace contact photos with them. It's nice looking, and isn't sluggish.

Almost everyone I know who's updated to iOS7 has been posting how much they hate it... why would I want to go for that look??

SkinnyPupp 10-10-2013 08:36 PM

MTR is rolling out Octopus SIM, using your phone's NFC as an octopus card. It's really limited now - you have to buy a new Sony handset, it has to be through PCCW, and there are only 5000 of them.. but it's a good indication of things to come.

Hang Seng also has a NFC based Visa payment system, but again it's really limited right now

suggest apps for taking videos and maybe editing? managment wants me to take walk around videos of some of the cars on the lot and i noticed very shaky video with the stock camera

So it looks like I'll be moving to a droid device sooner than expected (either a Nexus 5 or Z1 whenever the sony store offers it unlocked)

Im just looking for some similar type of features with symbian

like the always on screen (sleeping screen) which shows a clock/notifications/pictures (its customizable and you can select as many images as you want they rotate)

I read that Android has something called Daydreams which is essentially the same thing but I read that Daydreams only goes on when the phone is docked/charging (and the only threads i could find discussing this are almost a year old)

Is there anything that's always on in place of a blank standby screen?

this is what i mean by Nokias Sleeping Screen

here's a video of an early beta version

I love the feature so am hopeful that I can find something exactly like it

Spidey 10-18-2013 10:33 PM

I have the HTC one, and I get both my hotmail and Gmail pretty much instantly. Under settings/peak time sync, I select "push"
