Nope no root needed for Nova. They just launched 2.0 which is supposedly even lower memory usage, faster and more features. I do notice a slight improvement in speed and smoothness after updating.

New launcher, supposed to replicate GoogleNow. shows promise but still looks a bit unfinished:

SF Launcher is like Google Now for your entire phone... sort of | MobileSyrup.com

If you're into spending the time, you can try UCCW. Or your can go on xda and get premade widgets for it.

I kinda like that. Thing I find with pretty much every launcher I've tried, is aside from some cosmetic differences (fancy page transitions, adjustable rows and columns, etc.), they all follow the same basic design. This at least changes it up somewhat. I read a review recently about another launcher that's really stripped-down and simple... wanted to try it but there's no free or demo version, only a paid version. Can't remember what it's called...

Edit: Aahhh, I think this was the one: http://www.androidauthority.com/acti...atures-137537/ - has a "Start Button" type menu that kinda appeals to me.

New Swiftkey Flow updated with a lot of fixes based of user reviews!
Download here: SwiftKey Flow Beta Available for Download
Quote:

Predictions (and Flow) now on in most places (exceptions: e-mail fields, passwords, anywhere where the app doesn't behave itself with SK, fields offering their own corrections on Android versions <= 2.2)
Easier corrections - just tap on the word and SwiftKey will offer you 3 possibilities
New languages: Thai, Vietnamese, Bosnian, Albanian, Javan, Sundanese (plus those added in 3.1)
Features from SwiftKey 3.1: Berry theme, split layout in landscape on phones, Armenian, Azerbaijani, Georgian, Hindi, Hinglish, Irish, Macedonian, Spanish (Latin America) and Tagalog
New layouts for Hindi and Russian
Ukrainian landscape layout fixed
Backspacing on to the final word of a multi word prediction (Flow through space) will now give better alternatives
Typing style now inferred rather than a setting
Long press delete accelerates after the first word

Bugs fixed:
Flowing off shift no longer triggers a change in shift state
Flow no longer gets stuck when you flow off the bottom of a page
Quick period working after single letter words
Arrow key repeats
Learning when sending messages or tabbing between fields with the enter key fixed
Azeri capital i behaviour corrected
Estonian will now predict words containing ö
Fixed force close on Beta predictions
Flow trace no longer left behind after flowing
Mounting an SD card will turn predictions off only if SwiftKey language packs are stored on that SD card
Keyclick sounds no longer doubled
Haptic duration made consistent with flow on and off

No idea, even if it is a separate app, I don't mind paying Swiftkey another few bucks. They really make an awesome keyboard.

On the frugal side, they do put the keyboard on sale very often.

Gh0stRider 01-28-2013 07:42 PM

it should be a free upgrade....

is swiftkey better than swype? Swype is the thing that got me onto android from iphone. It's a necessity for me now

Soundy 01-28-2013 10:39 PM

Swiftkey Flow (currently in beta) adds swype, although its behaviour is a little different than the stock Android keyboard. Overall I think it's a better keyboard - better predictions, self-learning (the stock one you have to go through two or three steps to add new words on the fly), and can also read from your Facebook, Twitter, Gmail and SMS accounts for its dictionary (so it knows the words you use most).

Alatar 01-29-2013 02:17 PM

From Swype to Swiftkey Flow to the Jelly Bean Android keyboard, I find I prefer Swype's UI and input methods the most. I like Swiftkey Flow Beta, but Swype Beta just seems smoother and more intelligent for me, after trying both for weeks/months each.

If Swiftkey Flow improves more, I may change my mind, but I've always preferred Swype to traditional "input" methods.

Still waiting for a solid sports app for my Galaxy Tab 2 10.1

I love the way the TSN app is on the Ipad but nothing I've found so far works on my Tab.

no widget, no in app browser

willystyle 02-04-2013 06:11 PM

Swiftkey needs to add Chinese support. It's been way too long.
