1. So I have the cigarette lighter already occupied with something else. Is it possible to record without the car charger? Or would i have to buy a splitter?

2. Just plugged the USB to my camera & the cam. How long does it usually take to charge? ....it is charging right now right LOL

TIA :)

Get something like this.
It has two cigarette slots and will save your battery from draining.
I got mine off Ebay after my power magic pro failed. Also keep in mind DHL charged me $20 in duty/tax/customs/brokerage/etc. at the door

The Type C one at the bottom of the page is the one you will need.

hardwire it
you can record 24/7 and it doesn't occupy a cigarette lighter spot

Any places that will hardwire it for you?

I absolutely have no clue how to do it or where to start :fuckthatshit:

Start by finding fusebox and which fuse you want to tap into. If you want 24/7 then tap into something like door locks which are always powered. If you want recording with ignition then go for something like accessory or wipers.

Buy an add a fuse from lordco for 10 bucks

Cut off cigarette lighter end of power cable and connect positive to add a fuse and negative to ground bolt near fusebox.

Put fuse + original fuse into fusebox slot

Run wiring up headliner and hide in pillars = :fullofwin:

If the recorder uses 12V that'll work, otherwise you'll blow it up if it's expecting 5V from a USB mini plug. If it's got a USB mini/micro get an "add a cig outlet" from Princess Auto, wire that up then plug the recorder into that. Hide the plugs under the dash and then if you ever want to disconnect it or replace it it's easy.

Your camera is powered by a USB plug? What?

Who the hell would design a dash camera for a car where almost everything operates at 12V, to accept 5V?

underscore 05-30-2014 09:44 AM

Mine takes a USB mini plug, presumably so you can hook it to the PC if need be. It's handy because I can use the same (very long) cord to power my GoPro or MP3 player if need be.

I was under the impression that most dashcams are powered by Mini/Micro USB, but includes a 12v Cig to USB cable?

Anyway, I made this when I hard-wired my dashcam:

Higher quality dashcams are powered by the 12V output, and lower quality dashcams are more likely than not, to be powered by USB cables.

probably im repeating somebody's post. sorry if i did.

bought this package from amazon for $239 US. blackvue dr500 + power magic pro. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

HOWEVER, i was missing the power magic pro (main unit) and called amazon. amazon fortunately refunded me the $$$ of what a power magic pro would cost here. just so you are aware! dr500 + wifi doesn't cost that much either.

somehow, 16gb and 32 gb is the same price at amazon.

I guess so, cause all the VicoVation, Blackvue and finevu cameras I have seen use 12V power, not usb leads.

I use the mobius dash cam and find it records fairly well in most light conditions but is super discrete which I love.

MG1 05-31-2014 07:32 AM

I've got a mobius as well. Haven't installed it yet - had it for nearly two months, hee hee. It'll probably outperform all my other dashcams.

MG1 06-08-2014 04:41 PM

Finally installed (loosely) the Mobius, and all I can say is, wow! Not going to bother uploading any footage, but for the price, it is a velly good dashcam.

For more info, just google "mobius action cam".

I think I got mine from whatever link is in this blog.

That's a nice size, not too big.

VanBCguy 06-11-2014 11:18 AM

Sure wish I had one for the accident I was just in that wrote off a lifted and modified Jeep and a Prelude. I could have proven his excessive speed and him being on his cell phone.

badboy 06-11-2014 12:53 PM

Wow it seems like you guys are paying well over $200 for a dash cam. Let me help you: http://www.amazon.ca/ojocam-G-sensor.../dp/B00G6UC9MU

I have this in my car and I totally love it. Records in 1080p, automatically records when the car starts and stops when I turn off the car, very small and barely noticeable behind the mirror, just snuck all the cable behind the padding all the way to the door and underneath to the cig lighter, very clean setup.

^I love the fact that you can extend only the lens part. Albeit only a short distance.
