where did you guys visit? for me it was Osaka -> Kawaguchiko -> Tokyo

short trip and tiring AF but I had a blast each day

Tokyo -> Karuizawa -> Hakone -> Kawaguchiko -> Tokyo

We went for 2-weeks and it was amazing, the weather was perfect since it wasn't too cold or hot. Felt like a perfect Vancouver Summer weather.

Where did you stay at Kawaguchiko? We stayed at Ubuya and highly recommend it, Mt Fuji came out during our stay too!

We flew Zip, so landed in Tokyo, then we went to Nagoya, and spent a few days in Takayama.

I debated going to Gero onsen, but it was just way too rushed and we didn't think we would enjoy it with the kids.

spoon.ek9 05-01-2025 11:12 PM

In Kawaguchiko we stayed at the Ooike Hotel with a mountain view from our room. Got super lucky because we were only there for one night and the weather was great other than being windy and a bit cloudy. Got plenty of photos with the mountain. Next morning it was rainy and cloudy the whole day and couldn't see shit.

Razor Ramon HG 05-01-2025 11:25 PM

I don't think a lot of people realize how visibility of Mt. Fuji is very unpredictable.

You could spend thousands for a nice ryokan with a private onsen and all the jazz, but you might not see shit the entire time!

Glad you were able to enjoy it.

I opted to possibly see Mt. Fuji from the Shinkansen on my way to Kyoto instead, lol.

We leave to Greece for 3 weeks next Friday.

Speaking of Japan, any of you guys been to Okinawa, and that region? What's it like? Beaches nice?

MG1 05-02-2025 08:44 AM

When I went last October, I stayed at a Ryokan. Rooftop view was amazing. Butt, it was cloudy. By midnight, it started to clear. Early morning it was clear. Nice!!!! Except, no snow on the peak. W - T -F ????? On the way back to Tokyo, I decided to take a bus, instead of train or Shinkansen. Wow, best option next to driving.

I stayed in Japan for 18 days, but my two sons stayed a whole month, while daughter and I went back. Number one son had a friend in Okinawa, so he went there for a couple of days. I'll have to ask him, but I think he stayed mostly in whatever urban area he was in.

Big regret for us was to not rent a car and drive. The train from Nagoya to Takayama was supposed to be a scenic train and it was cheap relative to renting a car. TBH it kind of sucked.

I wish we drove to Takayama instead.

Gumby 05-02-2025 10:19 AM

I was there in March 2024 and planned to train from Tokyo to Osaka, but my kids didn't want to waste time on the train so we ended up flying. We sat on the right and didn't see Mt. Fuji...

Was there for 5 days, 3 of which were a typhoon, no power for 3 days, all fun and games until i realized there would be no AC and it was humid AF.

Otherwise id suggest renting a car, driving around, lots of awesome places to see including beaches.

Would i go back? No. Mainland Japan? Yes.

I love taking the train in Japan and I prefer trains over flying. Eat some bento boxes during and before you know it, you're arrived.

CivicBlues 05-02-2025 03:39 PM

How could taking a flight be faster than the Shinkansen? You have to lug yourself to the airport, check-in 2 hours before, then find your way from the other airport etc. Total time wasted is 5 + hours. You can get from Tokyo to Osaka in 2.5 hours flat by Train.

I thought the same thing! But domestic travel by plane in Japan was insanely efficient. Haneda airport wasn't that far from where we stayed and I definitely did not check-in 2 hrs before the flight... The flight was just 1 hr and cost about the same as taking the bullet train for the 4 of us.

I think your 2.5 hr estimate is optimistic... I stayed at Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku in Tokyo and Holiday Inn in Osaka Namba. Google maps says the journey would take 3.5 hrs by train.

Side note, my sister said her kids experienced motion sickness on the bullet train.

Badhobz 05-02-2025 04:31 PM

OMG you fucking nerds, stop talking about trains and shit.

Either post photos of your trip OR post stories of the WHORE HOUSES you visited OR post food pictures OR anime trash cuz I know all you hamsup lo's went there to do those things.

oh fuck, and I totally forgot we are all suppose to love cars. SO POST JDM CAR PICS.

Gumby 05-02-2025 05:02 PM

Sorry, here's the only JDM car pic I got (taken while walking towards Minoo Falls):
