It’s the cheapest loan you’ll ever receive. No reason not to |
Because I don't want to be in debt...................for any reason. |

It's only a good deal if you're doing something with the capital, most people don't invest that capital, so it's actually a horrible deal. Most often the house would have to be sold to cover the property tax debt. I suspect with most families the house would be sold anyway to divest the assets amongst the children anyway. |
What? That’s exactly what it’s for.. people who can’t afford the taxes.. pay them once you sell? lol The amount of interest paid on these deferred taxes is -nothing- there is a reason why this is only available to 55+ because it’s cheaper to have them live in their home then it is to find suitable living situations for them. People deferring taxes shouldn’t be worried about that picking away from their kid’s inheritance, it’s creating the ability to stay in your home. By the sounds of MG1 situation his house must be worth more than the threshold for the grants, which means it’s 2+ million. If you can’t afford to pay the property taxes and you’re not willing to defer them in order to stay in your home, you should then be selling. (Not saying this is you MG1) but frankly, it’s fucking insane when you see some old fuck on the west side who’s home is worth 5 million and they are complaining about the taxes.. there is literally every avenue for you to avoid them and you’ve gained SUBSTANTIAL wealth by doing absolutely nothing in the meantime. Either do a reverse mortgage or move. |

Colour me ignorant, but why are they banking on an inheritance? What makes them think their parents aren't going to donate their house to say the church or a charity? |

You guys wanna hear a crazy shitbag kids story A guy i worked with, in NZ, in his late 30s, was in the process of moving to Australia, and the story goes as follows: His mom lives in australia with her recent husband. Not related to my coworker. If i recall correctly, the husband owned the house. Coworkers moms most recent husband, has a daughter. The daughter was "watching over" her dads bank account, and had access. She was caught cleaning out her dads bank account. The dad somehow found out. I dont recall if it was a couple hundred here and there, or if it was several thousand. Dad unhappy. Dad says to my coworker "so me and your mother have a deal for you, move in with us, take care of the house and us till we die, the house is yours. I have told my daughter she isnt getting a dollar." Daughter caught wind of above, daughter unhappy. LOL. My coworker essentially inherited 1 million dollars overnight, from "unrelated" family. How deep did he know the stepdad? Dont know. Regardless, thats crazy money. Personally i would never do it, couldent pay me enough to move back in with my parents. |
The daughter can vary the will. |
Yup, your NZ buddy should ask get on title...He can't possibly be dumb enough to take him for his word. Right? Either way, the daughter gonna contest that shit like nothing else. |
If the NZ buddy's name is on the house's title, and if there is a legitimate will indicating the house will be passed down to the NZ buddy, then no amount of contesting from the daughter is gonna change that. Doesn't mean the chick won't try, and it also doesn't mean the husband might change his mind some time in the future either though. |

Man having cars get old sucks, and you don't even think when you buy them and want to hold onto them for a long time if they'll even be serviceable down the line. My Speed 3 is my only car I've ever bought new. And even though now it's 16 years old, in my mind it's always been my "new car" and I've been OCD about its care since I've had it. Only ever serviced with parts from the dealership, etc etc, yes even oil filters. About a month ago I had some damage to my underhood insulation. I thought "No problem, I'll call up Mazda like I usually do and order a new one", I've replaced it before years ago no problem, it was like $40. Call the parts guy, Mark (he's been there about as long as I've owned the car and knows me by name). He says "should be no problem", a minute goes by and then he says "oh no, yeah that's not available anymore". I say "Aww crap". This is when the realization that my "new car" is just an "old car" actually sets in. He gives me the part number so I can try to to find it myself. What makes it even more difficult is that's it's a bespoke part to Gen 1 speed 3's. Regular 3's are different, Gen 2 speeds are different. So after days of googling and sending emails, getting some disappointment back (some places said they had it only to cancel the order) I found a place in fucking Estonia that had it! It just came in today, a month earlier than originally expected. I can't believe how happy I am over a stupid little thing like this (even though I paid 5 times what the insulation would have originally retailed for) I will say I HATE the "researching and finding" part of car repair/restoration. A while back my cousin was into buying old dirt bikes and convinced me to get one to fix up, and found one for a few hundred bucks. And when I got into it, I realized I was going to spend more time on the phone & internet than I would be actually working on the stupid thing, so I just sold it right away for what I paid for it. The Mustang is good because you can basically build the car from a catalogue these days. |
Yes totally. Thank god I never had to source any parts for the sc430 but if you break that weird little floppy cup holder, I heard it’s nigh impossible to find the replacement as they don’t make it anymore and the wood was different on each and every model (cuz they used real wood back then!) |
Glad you were able to find it. Mind sharing where you got it from? I'm asking because a friend of mine was trying to repair his E30 race car and needed something similar, and bumper parts. Well, the war in Ukraine broke out and he only managed to get parts for it last November and it came from Estonia as well. A lot of these companies are shifting factories/production to these countries. |
Yep, Alvaldi: https://alvadi.com/ I placed the order on May 6, I was fully preparing myself for my order to be cancelled. They gave me a ship date of Jun 10 and ETA of Jun 18. My doorbell rang this afternoon, it was Canada Post parcel. Thank god they didn't go on Strike Today!!!! What i found odd was that there was one place in Japan, messaged me back and said they "don't ship underhood insulation due to high likelihood of damage". This piece is only like 2' x 1.5' easily put into a box, which Alvaldi did. *shrug* |
