There is a reason why you never see 20+ year old BMWs or Mercedes on the roads.

All cars are designed to be scrap as soon as possible.

Hold into old cars that can be repaired for cheap!

Okay boomer

In regards to brakes I check them when I swap tires. Kind of impossible to tell wear if the rear pads even with the tire off, but I figure if the front pads are still health and nothing is grinding I’m ok.

With our G I have the “lifetime” transmission fluid however.. I have the full maintenance records back to the original owner and about 20,000 KM and funny enough, at 65,000 KM Nissan changed the fluid. I can’t tell if that’s when the car was traded back in to Infinity or if it was due to something else, but it’s kind of funny they replaced their own “lifetime” fluid on what appears to be a scheduled maintenance

Yeah the entire thing. We bought it used so it's just under 4 years old with 53k on it now.

I've heard a few different takes on it, the clutches are sticking, or the fluid gets dirty and there's premature wear. Either ways seems to be happening on the higher power and heavier cars. Not hearing it a lot on the smaller 4 cylinder cars

Maybe not in lumby or wherever the fuck you live right now, but you literally see hundreds of those a day in Vancouver.

This is why I bought a '98 Supra TT 6-Speed. Old cars ftw.

Will be picking it up in Vancouver in a couple of weeks.

A friend of mine who used to live in Vancouver, like, 10 years ago, is visiting in a few weeks.

He remembers Thomas Haas bakery. Are there any new bakeries, cafes, and pastry shops similar worth visiting? Thanks!

whitev70r 07-26-2025 06:29 AM

On the level of Thomas Haas, I'd recommend a visit to Melo Patisserie on East 8th and Main.

On just grab a coffee and slightly different than JJ Bean/SB, try Pure Bread, Breka, Paris Baguette. Daan Go is interesting but then you have one in Toronto. Nothing quite hits like a pineapple bun & HK milk tea like Lido.

bcrdukes 07-26-2025 06:42 AM

Thanks for the recommendations. I think Theirry is now in Mount Pleasant, if I'm not mistaken? I haven't been there myself.

Are there any similar shops say for example in the Downtown core, Coal Harbour, and Kitsilano areas? I'll have to suggest Isetta to him since he's a car guy.

for a cafe with good coffee and pastries i recommend nemesis on great northern

westopher 07-26-2025 07:32 AM

Yeah nemesis/dope bakery have a few spots around. Just map whichever one is closest to you. They have some of my favourite coffee out of the accessible places for sure.

Hondaracer 07-26-2025 08:11 AM

Pure bread always hits, especially in whistler for some reason

Nemesis got dem crosssaint breakfast Sandos

While I haven’t been there in a while, one of my favourite local bakeries is/was Batard on Fraser, their bread is incredible

Badhobz 07-26-2025 08:47 AM

It's exactly what I give him when I see him on our track days.

bcrdukes: Hey, I got some coffee. Help yourself.
pontifex4: Not bad. What is this?
bcrdukes: :fuckthatshit:

Reality: Whatever coffee I had leftover and brewed in a Mr. Coffee equivalent. (Sort of lying. Braun coffee maker from COSTCO!)

Thierry original location is still there on Alberni, they have a second location on E10th between Kingsway and Main, and another one in Ambleside now.

whitev70r 07-26-2025 06:39 PM

Nemesis is great.

Isetta is no longer a car coffee place, it's a spandex middle age with 2 wheels cafe now.

Badhobz 07-26-2025 06:41 PM

Isetta is too busy. No parking and the food is very meh.

whitev70r 07-26-2025 06:54 PM

Some people like Le Foret, it's slightly different. Their food/lunch is decent.
Artigiano? Faubourg? Paul's?

Badhobz 07-26-2025 07:04 PM

You can’t go to le foret with more than 2 people. That place is tiny as shit. It’s always packed too and those wooden chairs are painful.

Hondaracer 07-26-2025 07:43 PM

Le Foret always felt like a knock off coffee shop imo

Went to the metro one all the time. They wanted to be a breka

Tell them there's free underground parking! For years I would keep having to circle the block waiting for street parking and last visit I finally friggin realized there's more parking!!!

Has anyone been to Perfecto Cafe in North Van? Any good?

I’ve walked by and it looks hilariously bad but might not be. I’ve heard Loam about a block away from there is very good though, and nemesis is about 2 blocks away.
