Had an interesting interaction yesterday (warning, story time).

As I mentioned earlier in the thread it's Deuce days this weekend, freaking awesome. My wife and I went downtown to watch them all arriving and cruising around downtown (IMO it's better than the actual Sunday car show because you get to see & hear them driving around).

It was a beautiful night we had a table on the patio of Belleville's, which is the restaurant right across the street from the Black Ball Ferry Terminal (the Ferry from Port Angeles Washington).

It was neat watching all the hot rods unload off the ferry, drew a big crowd.
Between all the Deuce Day people, and the cruise ships there was a shit ton of people and tourists in town, it was absolutely buzzing (except that there were a few "elbows up" protesters waving signs in front of the Legislature, but whatever).

Anyways, there were a couple of guys at the table next to us and we started chatting. They were here from Alberta for the event, they parked their trailer in Tsawwassen and drove their hot rod over, a deuce with a blown 426 hemi making 800+ HP,

He had the hot rod parked on the other side of the street from the restaurant. We were making small talk, told him about my car that's in progress, he used to have a few classic mustang etc etc. It was all good. And then I asked him what his car was like on gas, he said it took him half a tank to get to downtown from the ferry terminal lol.

And then he made a comment about how much higher the gas prices were here, and then said:

"It's 'Cause you all voted Liberal!", "You guys need to get your butt kicked and get some pipelines".

I was a bit taken aback, like I met this guy for like 10 minutes and he's going political, geez so brash. Somewhere in the conversation he even made some comments about Palestine and shit, and I was like "OK?".
The waitress came by shortly after, they were waiting for a spot at another part of the patio that had a better view of the cars, so they left.

Man, 68Style, if this is what you have to deal with on a daily basis, I feel for you man!

On the bright side, a couple of mint 1968 Shelby's showed up, a GT350 convertible and a GT500KR 428SCJ. (a couple hundred grand worth of classic mustangs on the same street). These made my day
Too new for the deuce days car show, but it brings all the other nice cars out:

I mean sure, but loudly proclaiming your politics to strangers you've met for 10 minutes is pretty low brow. Like dude I just want to talk cars, not politics. Whether I share your opinions or not.

Well yea like I’ve always said, you’re a clown boi if you’re just spouting off politics in a random public forum, even as a joke it’s kinda gross

Car looks great though

Great68 07-18-2025 06:58 PM

Not sure I understand your comment dude. Are you trying to roast me? Because you have 10 times the number of political comments on this forum than I do...

I think he meant people in general, not you specifically.

I think...

:inout:

westopher 07-18-2025 07:40 PM

I think he means in person. Like, to be fair to him and any of us, if we are in the politics thread, we are in there and welcoming whatever people want to say whether we think it’s bullshit or not. Bringing it up in regular life out of nowhere is dumb.

The whole nu feminism / manosphere divergence is just more unnecessary tribal retardation our society doesn't need.

I was in a relationship with a girl and she left me to go back to her ex.

Then would post publicly on her social about how things aren't great with her ex.

Then also complain how much she hates being reminded about her past from other people.

This isn't even an exception anymore. It's straight up normal. You may as well buy a Mongol bride if you're gonna roll the dice with a someone you barely know.

Give him 2 years and he'll start thanking Hondaracer's posts, and put a LOVE ALBERTA OIL & GAS sticker.

Someone mentioned US travel on here recently

Whats up with the i5 and i405 being littered with cops?

Been down to seattle a few times, usually you see 1,2 maybe 3 cops sizzling on the highway or have someone pulled over.
Today on the way down we passed 8-9 people that were pulled over, in the span of 2hrs.

Spoiler!

let me guess, that guy tells all his friends online that he never talks about politics irl?

westopher 07-19-2025 07:56 AM

Then tells stories about what all his friends think about politics last time they talked about it.

Being a white dude pretty much everywhere I've been in the last 15 years I've had that happen. It's always people with right wing views who are being loud about it.

The only exception was a Texan who was vocally anti-Trump, but that was back in March and he was up in Canada so not overly surprising he wanted to make that known lol.
