I watched about 45 seconds from my rooftop patio on Saturday and was just like holy fuck I can’t believe people spent 5 hours on this process.

SSM_DC5 07-21-2025 10:53 AM

Is that an invite to watch from your patio so we can make it home in a respectable time?

Park at park royal and grab a bus across. When you leave, grab a bus at georgia and denman as they have empty buses waiting there already. You be at your car in 15mins.:ilied:

If my roof wasn’t being replaced and all my furniture was off of it I’d have an RS meet, but you guys would need to bring the beer. Next summer when the smoker and furniture is set up sure.

That essentially rules out most of us then...

Badhobz 07-21-2025 03:46 PM

Yeah I don’t even remember what I said yesterday. Tomorrow I’ll probably go buy a beetle for fun and crash it into another beetle.

I used to drive down in the late afternoon, park at one of the 6pm spots and go have dinner with my girlfriend and find a small spot after to watch the fireworks. Takes less than an hour to get home as I get in the car and we are out of downtown in less than 20mins.

Used to be able to pay and park on Pender for 2 hours until 8PM (get there at 6) then it was free unlimited parking until the show was over.

Then I'd walk down Denman, hop in my car, take Hastings to the Ironworkers, and I'd be home in 15 minutes. Can't do that anymore since they changed the pay parking to 10PM.

You can still do it. Pay the two hours. Set an alarm and paybyphone for hour 3 and 4.

68style 07-21-2025 09:20 PM

I thought the app doesn't allow that because the max is supposed to be 2 hours, you have to move your car to a diff zone?

Hondaracer 07-21-2025 09:21 PM

You pay on the machine then the app

Badhobz 07-22-2025 06:18 AM

^big city brains on hondaaahh!!

winson604 07-22-2025 06:29 AM

Honda's way is way easier to achieve now since they've changed a ton of the meters in this City to pay station style vs putting in physical coins which often are jammed making this method of getting 4 hours not possible. Another way but I can't confirm it still works anymore parking as per normal via the app for 2 hrs then adding your vehicle again to the app as a new plate but change it so that the plate has a space in the middle so ABC123 then add ABC 123. It'll think it's a completely different car and allow you to pay for 2 hrs. Again I do NOT know if this still works but definitely did before.

How can Hondaracer not go to the Honda Celebration of Lights

Hondaracer 07-22-2025 07:49 AM

I’d actually love to see the fireworks but everything else involved is a nightmare.

I’d probably just walk home

Haven’t been in 25+ years

whitev70r 07-22-2025 07:54 AM

How do you know if you're over the hill? When the hassle of going to see the fireworks outweigh the delight of seeing colorful explosives with a million other strangers on a beach.

Time flies and I'm not even super old but aside from taking my oldest to see fireworks one time when he was younger like 7 years or so ago the last time prior to that was in HS so somewhere around 99/2000.

Park far + rental scooter seems like it might be a fun way to get there. Also don't have to worry about the scooter being stolen vs your own bike. Walk back to car on a summer night and hopefully no heavy traffic on the way home.
