but they need to remove the shrubs there. if you're heading west, no one can see your car waiting at the 4 way unless they're sitting high up in a pickup or big SUV or really paying attention. it's like hey lets remove visibility and make a shitty 4 way even shitter :seriously:

My son started walking home from school last year from time to time and I just tell him dont cross the 4 way stop and use the traffic light on 46th instead because people cant be trusted.

That traffic light isn't a sure fire thing either as it's so close to the 4 way stop I've see ppl blow through it, and also left turns coming out of 46th is a hazard as well.

30 in residential sides hasn't fully been phased in yet. The VPD can't enforce it unless there's signage. They can't put signs on every street due to costs. At this point it's only specific neighborhoods where signage is up.

Not exactly the same, but I live across the street from a public park and elementary school. A speed camera, 30km/h signs, and speed bumps were implemented to slow people down from speeding.

People now drive faster and give zero fucks. No cops are around to enforce either.

Great68 10-20-2025 12:25 PM

Saanich has been putting "Residential Zone" 30km/h signs all over my neighbourhood, they put them at both ends of my street.

The signs don't bother me so much, people did rip across my street to get between the two main streets, and would go too fast in doing so. But speed bumps would be absolutely infuriating.

What does bother me is the reduction of all the main arterials surrounding me to 40km/h.

I realized about 6 months into living in Calgary and driving around everywhere here that there's no such thing as school zones anywhere in Calgary. The signs don't exist... they just put those yellow 30km/h park or children playing signs like BC has up around all schools and parks... which are literally fucking everywhere, even if it's a main road sometimes even on 4 lane roads. And they're all until 9pm which is extra annoying.

Mikoyan 10-20-2025 01:05 PM

Since we're talking infrastructure, COV installed traffic lights at Slocan and 22nd. They're not active yet... Too late for SSM_DC5 though.

Calgary also has mobile photo radar that makes people behave a bit better in residential areas from what I noticed.

i didn't realize that until i got a ticket, i was wondering why everyone going down 4th st or central that everyone was driving at speed limit on the dot.

i asked my friend about it, they also ticket people turning in front of pedestrians crossing the street - you have to let them cross first, THEN you can turn. and it's enforced with ticketing.

Razor Ramon HG 10-20-2025 03:57 PM

Seems like traffic laws in AB and SK are actually enforced.

Went to visit my friend in Regina and was wondering why he was driving close to 50 on the dot. He told me he got a few tickets for going 60.

He recently moved back here and still drives like a turtle, lol.

are we talking about the pedestrian controlled light where kerr & rupert merge by the KCC track? cars turning out there do come out hot but i find are more behaved. if anything it's guys on bike's blazing thru causing chaos.

change of topic.

i have an old leather belt of sentimental value that's in rough shape. I'd like to re-use the buckle/metal parts on a new belt. anyone know of any leather workers in e.van near joyce/kingsway area that would do that? TIA

So I’m sitting here eating dolar hotpot with the wife and it’s bloody empty. This place is usually bumping…. Less than 1/4 the restaurant is full. It was the same at lunch today too.

Something big and depressing seems to be coming down the pipeline. Import and export Volumes are dropping significantly, seems like most people are not spending, and there is a big air of economic uncertainty floating around with that idiot down south making waves.

Not a single person inside no 9. Which usually has a few wackos who enjoy their overpriced rubbish.

spoon.ek9 10-20-2025 08:11 PM

Everyone probably at food courts getting better deals in these unpredictable economic times

whitev70r 10-20-2025 08:27 PM

Who the hell is out eating at a Chinamen restaurant tonight .. it's friggin game 7 of the ALCS !!

C'mon Baddyhobz, support the white man sport (actually sushi eaters are pretty good at it) ... baseball, and cheer on Canada!

spoon.ek9 10-20-2025 08:34 PM

You couldn't pay me to watch baseball lol...

bcrdukes 10-20-2025 08:53 PM

Badhobz single-handedly supporting the Canadian economy. :accepted:

What the fuck are you talking about. What is AlCS ? Those jap shoes ?

whitev70r 10-20-2025 09:04 PM

At least when the Jays play, go to Costco and have a hot dog !!

radeonboy 10-20-2025 09:39 PM

I had to google what ALCS was :lol

I also noticed how quiet the Hong Kong cafe I went to was tonight (HK Flavor) - only about ten people were having dinner around 6:30 PM. Normally there’d be two to three times that many..

Badhobz 10-20-2025 09:44 PM

I think the economy’s bad man. It’s been like this the past little while, I don’t think people are spending. Inventories are piling up and warehouses are full.

BIC_BAWS 10-20-2025 10:29 PM

I went to Pho 68 around 7pm for dinner. It was packed. Maybe people just choose not to eat at shitty places like #9 and choose to spend their money at quality places (doesn't have to be expensive)

radeonboy 10-20-2025 10:41 PM

^I agree with that. Among my friends, eating out is more of an occasion now with how expensive places have gotten here. So if we do decide to eat out, it needs to be a place with good quality and be reasonably priced.

My baked pork chop rice tonight was honestly pretty mid so I can see why they're practically empty - the pork was good but the portion shrunk and the rice was undercooked. Despite that I still want a HK Cafe close to me so I keep going back.

bcrdukes 10-20-2025 10:47 PM

Bring back Alleluia Cafe!

For the time being, I'd have to say the best baked pork chop rice around is from Wasan Cafe at Pacific Plaza (in Richmond). Pacific Plaza itself is a rundown 3-storey plaza, with the food court's seating area being a bit small. They are really nothing more than a food court food stall, but their food is really, *really* good.

You can look through their review on Google Map, and the food pics says it all. The milk tea is fantastic too! And I guess bcos the plaza is a little run down, rent is probably a bit cheaper, so their food is a bit cheaper than the fancier and more centrally located malls too.
