If you guys haven't already heard, the Holiday Miracle Plan is back on Dec 15th (tomorrow). This plan will be PERMANENT, and the promotion will expire by the end of this month.

Anyone regret ever changing to Wind yet?

It is so cheap, my lady can call all her friends anywhere from home, US, Canada, whatever. Then if I get a long distance call I missed at home or cell, I just call them on her phone. She has one of those LG Dlite. Its a bit shitty in using the browser, but it works.

Wind has been improving their coverage as well.

For those people who have a Pay Your Way plan which is $0 with unlimited free incoming calls, WIND has a 50% bonus for top off starting today to March 18.

Well, it was expected from the get-go that they will increase prices eventually. They can't keep improving service, expanding coverage and charge Mobilicity prices. As a Wind customer, I am more than happy with what they offer for a few extra dollars than what Mobilicity offers. If you don't already know, here's a link to their site that logs their network improvements.

oh wow. I didnt know about that archive, thanks for the heads up! I didn't know they were expanding their coverage that much.

Wind Mobile bets on bundling

Yeah, WIND is putting up alot of towers these days and is in the process of rolling out new services soon.

"Globalive Wireless Management Corp. is preparing to launch its first salvo in the telecom industry’s battle of the bundle.

The privately held company, which operates as Wind Mobile, is laying the groundwork to position itself as a “quad play” that would offer service bundles with wireless, home phone, high-speed Internet and, eventually, a suite of “over-the-top” programming for mobile devices."

Wind Mobile bets on bundling - The Globe and Mail

...

It's too bad that they are not going into the TV industry. We can certainly get some competition with Shaw and Telus.

StylinRed 03-06-2012 11:29 AM

i'd like them to get LTE and offer reasonable data prices ($93 from rogers for like 6gb is ridiculous)

side note is anyone still able to tether? i tried today and my tethering app couldnt connect to data but i could use data straight from my phone; i can see it connecting to 3.5g but afters its connected it says "service unavailable"

im not sure if its my app or if wind implemented something... (i think it might be my app though ill have to try reinstalling it later)

FerrariEnzo 03-06-2012 11:35 AM

i tether on my $29 Oh Canada Plan via USB on my laptop... works like a charm.. and I still only pay $33 with taxes..

StylinRed 03-06-2012 06:15 PM

ah havent tried usb/bluetooth connection

i used to using 'joikuspot' to create a wifi hotspot and then just connecting to my data that way but it hasnt been working today :/

edit: never mind figured it out was a problem with the phone ;)

willystyle 03-06-2012 11:50 PM

Hotspot tethering works for me.

I'm thinking about porting to Wind from Mobilicity, as I can't get any service on my phone anywhere and it drives me nuts.

Anyone have any complaints with Wind at all?

NSX 03-13-2012 01:22 AM

Nope ^^. I did the same after 4 months. You won't regret it. WIND is significantly better.

i switched over from fido. i've never looked back, and i'm way happier

How's the reception inside buildings in downtown? My dad needs a new phone and was maybe thinking of porting him over to Wind instead of having to resign with Rogers

Graeme S 03-14-2012 10:06 PM

I work downtown and other than the occasional spottiness in elevators, I'm good. Been standing right next to Mobilicity people who have 'no signal', and I've typically had 2-full bars.

Majestic12 03-14-2012 10:17 PM

I had an absolutely crap time with Wind when I first switched (Q1/2011), but starting in about Fall, it's been pretty good. Other than losing reception in underground parkades/elevators, etc, which can't be helped, I have no problems.

Alphamale 03-14-2012 11:50 PM

How are Wind data speeds lately in Vancouver?

honestly, its not as bad as you think. may be a spot or two where you get put in wind away, or just no reception, but ive never had problems.

speeds... gone as fast as 4mbps and as slow as 1mbps. the 1mbps is usually when i've gone over my 5gb and they throttle me.

Alphamale 03-15-2012 01:38 AM

What's the frequency of 4mbps?

I'm thinking about porting over..but I'm paying quite a premium w/ the $40 plan + $8 for VM vs the the 25BTS + 8 VM = $34.xx w/ $2 discount.

Any qualms with voice quality? Seems as though from time to time, people still complain about voice quality issues w/ Wind.

Fafine 03-15-2012 02:15 AM

anyone looking for a bb9780 locked to wind?

Any particular reason why you're leaving? Shitty service? Bad call quality? Slow data? ...etc

CP.AR 03-15-2012 09:20 AM

anybody try in the Delta-Tilbury area yet?
I've asked the kiosks and they say it's a home zone now, but it's just that they haven't updated the coverage map yet...

im not sure what frequency it was. i just know that once or twice, when i've done a speed test, ive hit that kind of speed. other wise i'm around the 1.5-2mpbs down for the most part. might not appeal to some, but for me, its alright.

i was lucky i jumped on the holiday miracle plan which is 40+tax for everything. compared to mobilicity, i just know everyone rates wind services much better than mobilicity so its really up to you which works. you can always try wind out for 15 days or 30 talk time minutes (whichever comes first) and refund, no questions asked. you'd only have to pay for what you've used. (ie. 3 days worth of usage)

voice quality, im not sure if its my phone but sometimes its a little quiet on my galaxy nexus. but on my nexus s it was fine (might have been voodoo on the nexus s)

Alphamale 03-16-2012 04:45 PM

Anyone on Wind walk into the back of Superstore @ Metrotown (aka, the pots/pans/meats section) and still get reception?

thegentleman 03-16-2012 10:26 PM

So I just switched over to Wind yesterday from Mobi and I currently don't have service in my damn fuckin room! It currently switches over from "Wind Home" & "Searching"

Although I haven't had any problems anywhere else..yet....
