service is still good. odd dead spots but not frequent enough to be noticible. especially when you begin to pin point where.

otherwise, service is solid and prices are great

I was with Rogers, check through this thread (last few pages) to find my experiences. With this $29 promo they've got now, it's definitely a good time to switch.

how is inside coverage, in houses, not buildings so much.

Anyone on Wind get the 4.1 update rolled out to their Gnex yet? I've never played around with rooting, roms, etc, and don't want to mess up my device by attempting a diy.

FerrariEnzo 08-22-2012 10:01 AM

if its offically out, then its nice.. if its port roms or cooked roms, them you get random FCs...

kwy 08-22-2012 10:17 AM

Couple of people on howardforums said that they got the update on their stock wind gnex. fingers crossed..

i dont have any problems inside houses. buildings would depend on the size of the building. (ie, friend's apartment, 13 or 14th floor. i lose reception in the elevator and takes a bit to refresh automatically once i exit the elevator) the only time i have problems is the dead spot where the coverage doesn't reach.

Graeme S 08-22-2012 01:03 PM

I'm good in houses. I actually live in a basement on a hill, and I'm good. Like ImpulseX says, elevators are a bit sketchy, but that's to be expected when the company doesn't have a low-band for penetration like RoBelLus' 850. Hopefully that'll be fixed in the coming years with the 700mhz bandwidth expansion.

sounds good to me. i can live with the odd dead spot. fido(pre rogers) used to be that way and rogers was the same until 850 was implemented also.

one other thing. friends i know who are with mobi have said once they roam out their home zone and have no coverage even when they re-enter the home zone the phone doesn't always connect on it's own and they have to manually connect to the network, is wind the same way or will it usually connect on it's own and quickly?

best bet, and this is what i did to ensure that you won't always be in a dead spot, is ask the wind rep where the towers are, and how strong the signal should be in your home. when i signed up, i just chatted with the guy about the reception, and how he feels about it personally. he told me about his own experiences and brought up a map and asked me where my home area would be. and showed me that the nearest tower is here or there, and that i may or may not have troubles with the reception. but even with that, i haven't had troubles being at home.

recently moved to a condo in south burnaby but had asked about the reception in this area when i signed up for wind (december) and the guy told me it'd be iffy. i only have little to no reception if i'm in my washroom which would be the middle of the entire strata. other than that, no problems.

well, one example i can give you is when i'm skytraining to downtown to go to steve nash, i always lose reception like everyone else going from stadium to granville, and i usually get reception again by the time i get up to dunsmuir automatically. and if it doesnt connect by then, then i'll have reception by the time i get to the sports club.

when i'm leaving downtown on skytrain. i'll usually be connected as soon as the train arrives to the platform, or jsut as it leaves. the times vary but i find the reconnection is fairly quick.

Most, if not, all of Vancouver, Richmond and burnaby areas are definitely covered. Surrounding areas are mostly covered...

I got coverage all the way up until Point Roberts boarders, so tsawwassen area looks like its covered pretty well... I was surprise... Winds coverage has come along ways...

i head to point roberts a lot, will i get coverage in point roberts?

FerrariEnzo 08-23-2012 05:35 PM

no, you will be in roaming... a few feet after you cross the boarder it will die and kick into roaming..

icemiko 08-24-2012 09:55 AM

You won't get any coverage in Point Roberts but I get coverage past the truck crossing boarder for like a few km.

that is no big deal i guess. how about when you are waiting in the line up to enter on the american side heading into canada? i usually am bored end up texting/bbm'ing etc..

im guess it would still be in roaming... sometimes it quick to connect, sometimes take long time..

just acquire the network manually and see... i always go when no traffic in either direction, I hate waiting

the day i switched to Wind I got on of those spam text messages, and this coming from a brand new number I was using for a few months coming over from another carrier where I never got any of that....

pretty convinced that Wind sells your numbers over to spam companies, I mean what are the odds that this happens literally hours after I ported over...

and yes coming over from Mobilicity, I can ACTUALLY stream my fcking Tune In Radio while driving in my car now without it constantly cutting out every 10 seconds....

Porting isn't a hassle. Walk in to the store with your current company's account number. let them do their thing. Walk out with a temporary number and get a text message a couple hours later that says "Congratulations! You're now our customer!"

Also, if you port now they're offering up to a $200 credit. So it said on the window when I walked by today.
