That's good to know. I'm planning on getting wind too. They can unlock your iPhone for $50?

Yeah I know, I just want to unlock it so I can give it to a family member to use on fido. Looked into it, apparently the iPhone can be remotely unlocked by Rogers once the contract expires for $50. S3 here I come!

Ya ^ your current provider can unlock your iphone for you, you call them, then they send something to apple, then you connect your iphone to itunes to get it unlock.. i also got it unlock to give it to a fam member

so far wind is decent, you get what you pay for

outdoors within the covered zone is fine, its the indoors that sometimes get sketchy.. i have a bud that lives on fraser on south van area and his house is only giving me 1 bar or less

i live in richmond and my house gives me 2 to 3 bars which is actually decent..

took it to richmond centre and i get 4 bars but the 3g internet connection were spotty on one of the stores

Yeah, I mostly text and surf. I rarely talk on my phone, is the internet speed bearable compared to the big 3? Also, I've been hearing that both mobolicity and wind have some text messages going into the void that never gets received. Any comment on this so far?

I haven't had any text messaging problems. The reception can be spotty in concrete buildings and underground parkades (as well as basement suites), so watch out for those. Speed-wise I get anywhere between 1.5Mbps to 4Mbps with a Nexus S. I am sure you can get better speed with the S3.

I rarely talk on the phone, so I can't comment on long phone conversations. All in all, I think it's a great value especially if you can jump on the $29 plan right now.

at home (royal oak area) the strata has me anywhere from 1 bar to 4 bars at a given time depending on where i am but i still make calls back home to edmonton and haven't had any problems.

haven't had any problems with texts going into the void.

internet speeds i'd say are pretty good. a friend tethered off of my galaxy nexus back in april and he was shocked at how fast the speeds were (wireless tethering i might add)
as for comparisons, i'm not sure how much fido would differ from rogers since they're the same company, but i found wind to be faster than fido when i was using both fido and wind before cancelling fido (galaxy nexus on fido vs nexus s on wind)

is wind's internet down? its 9:56pm and i have no data for about half an hour now

i would say most of my phone communication in the past 4 years coming from blackberry to iphone has been mostly bbm, text, whatsapp or fb..

my calls (when not with the gf) usually has been short with talking to the mother for a reminder or buddies for meet up.

so i can justify switching to wind....... unless this internet doesnt come back on

Thanks, I think I've pretty much made up my mind. My brother lent me his wind phone for a couple of days and so far I have reception at home and at work and only lost signal at crystal underground parking lot. I'll make my one phone call to Rogers retensions get disappointed and then ask about getting ETC and unlocking my phone

anyone get data roaming charges on their blackberry with wind?

i want to pick up a phone on tab but read about some people getting crazy data roaming charges, even with the data when roaming option set to off.

the only other solution to this i found was setting mobile network to 3g only so you never roam period but that would include voice call roaming also i believe.

the network requires you to always be on the 3g network or it'll be charged as roaming

I have a Blackberry on Wind and every month I get charged about 4 cents roaming for reading BBMs in non Wind zones (Chilliwack)

Other than that I have data turned off while roaming and never encountered anything unexpected.

What impulseX said. Any time you go into a wind 'away' zone, it's considered roaming. If you head down into the States but stay on 3G, you'll end up roaming with Tmobile. Not a big deal, just what happens. Set it to 3G only and you'll be fine.

if you have data roaming turned off how come you are getting charged for bbm's? is that not considered data?

if i turn data roaming off and also manually set my network to 3g only am i safe within GVA not to roam?

read about some guy on hofo who didn't know he was roaming and incurred a $1000 roaming charge.

there are two kinds of roaming, so three kinds of signal.

3G, AWS. "Wind home". All of your unlimited stuff is unlimited. My phone is on 3G only, so that I only ever connect to wind home.

3G, UMTS. Some phones like my galaxy nexus have the ability to use more than just one 3G set of frequencies. If I go to the states or somewhere else in the world, I'll be using this. This is foreign roaming.

2G, GSM. This (in Canada) is "wind away". That means that while you can connect to it as a wind network, you will be paying per minute and per kilobyte for all charges.

I'll be honest. If you spend enough time out of wind home zones, it is most likely not worth it to switch to wind. If you switch to 2G to save batteries, you will spend a fortune in texting and calling (15c/min, 15c/text, if I remember correctly).
