Yeah.

A lot over or a little over?

Some folks on the forums actually swap AP1 ECUs into their AP2s to unlock the 9000rpm redline. Anecdotally, it seems ok for once-in-a-blue-moon street use. Just not for sustained track use lol.

So you might be ok!

Yeah.

Money shift or trying to stretch out a gear on a straightaway at a/x??

I'm thinking quite a bit over - was shifting from 4th into 5th at the end of the Ridge straight (160kph), but went into 3rd instead for a brief moment before I caught it and clutched out.

Was told that AP2 valvetrain/retainers are good for 9.8k RPM or so, so hopefully no lasting damage beyond brown pants for me.

Valves to the stratosphere! Hopefully you caught it in time

How much is that s2k engine rebuild ?

AstulzerRZD 06-17-2025 01:34 PM

Per stage auto center, sustained operation at 8.7& RPM actually worse than getting to 9500-10k once. You’re fine.

Rebuilt F20/22 don’t last - FRM liner, crankshaft weight matching, etc make it not worth doing. Buy a used one or crate motor.

Not worth rebuilding maybe. Go K-swap if it blows.

No crunchy noises, no weirdness in the session after so probably OK.

I'd probably K-swap if it goes.

AstulzerRZD 06-17-2025 02:32 PM

K swap cost roughly ends up being the same as a used F engine … thought about this too.

roastpuff 06-17-2025 03:07 PM

Yes but K-swap is easier to source, and has more power potential - you can get 230-240whp out of a K without too much difficulty.

Badhobz 06-17-2025 03:17 PM

yeah but if you ever sell the s2k, having its original engine is worth that much more $$$ than a k swap.

My S2000 is already worth jack squat because it already has AP2 engine in AP1 body and over 250k kms. Haha.

This car is the definition of track rat.

This worked surprisingly well but neither of the holes I welded shut fixed the problem lol. Only gets loud when it's warmed up so I'm gonna changing some gaskets.

I did not, but brown streaks everywhere. :lawl:

BIC_BAWS 06-18-2025 11:35 PM

Now that I don't drive my car, ironically my green P *E* 7 *46M* plate bothers me more than before. Finally got so fed up with it and completed my collection with the Purcell Mtns plate. Attached them with the Mugen plate bolts that I've had for like 2 years but never used lol.

Damn OEM mounting point really had to be gaped out.. she tighter than a repressed virgin Catholic girl.

S2000 is pure smile fuel... one of my favourite cars of all time. Had so many good memories with my supercharged, 357 rwhp S2K... even when a flock of birds shit all over my car and my face, such a fun moment when I look back on it. In front of like 50+ people right outside The Boathouse on the White Rock waterfront.

Working on getting my turbo 5 speed Chrysler K-based convertible running again with a freshened cylinder head after I accidentally broke a cam cap off my built head... ( I was mentally stressed post-COVID and couldn't function properly. )

Mugen plate bolts

Are they titanium? are there weight savings?

They look awesome, but they look bigger than the uasual screws... dont tell me they are heavier... lololol

trollface 06-20-2025 11:59 AM

You think a big mentos looking ring around a bolt is lighter than just a bolt?

bcrdukes 06-20-2025 12:30 PM

Yes :derp:

BIC_BAWS 06-20-2025 05:06 PM

Fuck if I know. I'm just copying OGs like @loong
