Well, I went through the service records which goes as far back as 2004. There are no records that suggest the cables were ever replaced, so we can assume they are original. My cables snapped on my previous MR2s (AW11 and SW20) and I suppose this is simply a wear/tear item, and not a catastrophic failure of any kind, regardless of marque. If anything, I think my track days accelerated its wear and the Porsche Gods decided yesterday was the day to snap them. :okay: | Quote:

Assuming they're like the cables on the stuff I've owned, before you tear too much apart see if one of the cable sleeve retaining clips popped off at the trans or shifter. I had that happen in my Prelude a couple towns away from home and the lowest gear I could get into was third. Of course I hit every red imaginable on the way back. | Quote:

I'm hoping it's just this, and that the cable itself is still okay. The factory came with plastic retaining clips that will eventually break off due to heat and 20+ years of shifting. This is the best-case scenario because now you can buy aftermarket solutions to resolve this. I just checked - OEM factory cables are over $1000!
Re: Red lights and 3rd only - Ouch - that must have sucked. :okay: | Shop got the car onto the lift today. Turns out the shifter cable collar became disloged from the sheath and caused the cable to bind. Only remedy is to replace. Date code on the cable sheath shows 2001*, so likely these are original, and it has the original cable part number. The cables have gone through 4 revisions.
Remember, these are just shifter cables. For your entertainment.

Took my chance and ordered factory cables from the dealer in France. Track day is July 19/20. :alone:
Guys, the P-car tax is real. I miss paying BMW and Toyota prices for parts. :okay: |
