noted!

mini goes in for paintless dent removal tomrrow
waiting on wheels
waiting on chrome delete
need to remove racing stripe
got coilovers picked out but holding off until i put the wheels on to see if i can live with the wheel gap. im really enjoying the stock setup right now
could use a paint correction

When did the British flag tail lights start going into these? Was that an LCI thing?

red kryptonite 06-10-2025 06:43 AM

ya 2018
i miss the days of plug and play tail/headlights. everything requires coding now.

I know a guy locally that does coding and he can code your union jack lights in if you want

red kryptonite 06-10-2025 08:51 PM

good to know!
i wonder if it can be coded so by default the exhaust valves stays closed. that way i can have a quiet cold start using auto start vs me having to get in the car press the exhaust button to close the valve then start the car.
edit: on the x5

bcrdukes 06-10-2025 10:17 PM

That's interesting.

On my old 996, I had the factory sport exhaust. By default, the valve was closed, but it was still loud, and it pissed my neighbours off. It's much louder when opened. :grin-FU:

red kryptonite 06-11-2025 06:53 AM

ya on the the x5, the button is there to shut it up.
im getting old haha being a considerate neighbor

JDMDreams 06-11-2025 08:39 AM

That's odd, I thought everything is always quiet mode by default, and you have to go into the hardcore race to get the valves to open, or have enough back pressure. That's why everyone welds them open. I guess BMW sells to the pop and bang crowd now

Looks like it's possible based on this thread I found for the G80. It's probably relevant for the X5 as well:

On the F chassis cars, no. I don't know if it's something that can be done on the G chassis cars. The G chassis cars have a lot of options out of the box.

hmm yes that's a problem

bcrdukes 06-11-2025 10:59 AM

wut

yray 06-11-2025 11:06 AM

thats not a problem, thats an improvement

RabidRat 06-11-2025 11:42 AM

At least it's an easy fix!

dark0821 06-11-2025 11:51 AM

What you mean leaky exhaust... its by design okay?!

Nothing in the settings I could find. Maybe the link link Radeon posted would give some insight.

It'll probably have to be coded. I dropped my coder friend a message to see what he has to say.

thanks! got it!
cold start/default driving mode: half open (code it to close during cold start, but does it affect how quickly the engine warms up?)
press the button: close it
m mode: fully open

EvoFire 06-11-2025 10:05 PM

I spoke with my friend about it and he gave me a response.

The valves button should remember last setting, so if you leave it open when you turn off the car, it'll be open when you start the car. Vice versa.

Cold start - nothing he can do about it through coding. Cold start can only be changed via a tune, which I don't think you are interested in atm. A tune of any sort will almost guarantee a flag in the system and a denial of warranty on the engine and drivetrain. BMW has a new directive since iirc 2021 where when a car is being worked on in the dealer, they have to plug it in and it'll do a scan for tampering.

i have a similar problem but my exhaust has no flanges so I'll have to throw it on my hoist to figure out where the hole is lol

If you have a shop vac you can put the hose on the outlet so it's blowing out, stick it in the tailpipe and seal it up a bit (not fully) and you can feel for leaks without having the engine running and making the pipe heat up.
