I can see this happening rather then Abby.

and where would they play? Abbotsford is a perfect location especially since they have the arena and it's still very close.

Is 45mins away to far to keep a close eye on prospects?

kristianhay 04-01-2013 12:36 PM

Well this is a little more interesting than a minor league trade.

On AHL carousel @NHLFlames will not announce relocation of Abbotsford Heat until deals w/ @VanCanucks & City of Abbotsford are completed...

so Calgary has to move their team to NY, Utica, and we take over the same location

one huge thing I see with this is that the organization has much more control over our prospects and their development
won't see any more career AHLers take our prospects spots in the line-up

:fullofwin:

murd0c 04-01-2013 12:57 PM

The key is we actually own the team so what Canucks managment want they get!! That's huge since right now we don't have any real control of the team.

BurnoutBinLaden 04-01-2013 12:58 PM

Other than the Leafs what other NHL team has a farm team close by?

Mike Oxbig 04-01-2013 12:58 PM

Abbotsford Canucks

Pretty surprised Calgary is willing to up and move so easy. They have a sweet deal with Abby for the next few years, any operational losses are covered by the city. So it's a risk free deal for the Flames, and not to mention Abby is close to Calgary as well.

Abby supposedly is willing to throw more money at the Flames to make them leave so the Canucks can move in and hopefully do better with attendance than the current Heat are. Where is Abby getting all this money from??? I wouldn't be surprised if Aquaman is throwing money at the Flames to get them to move as well.

murd0c 04-01-2013 01:06 PM

I tell you one thing I will do to games if thats the Canucks farm team. I have no interested in seeing the Flames farm team playing and I'm sure lots of people are like that as well.

I wonder if they will call them the Jr Canucks as well? Prob work out a TV deal with Rogers also.

UFO 04-01-2013 01:24 PM

Yeah, the games would be well attended/sold out when the Wolves came to town. I think during the lockout the games where the Oilers' kids were all playing was also very well attended. Anytime outside of that, not so much.

You do realize, Abby and Vancouver are both in the Lower Mainland...

The City of Abbotsford sees very significant returns on Tradex and YXX, so they're able to dig deep. Abbotsford has been subsidizing the Heat by $800,000-$1,500000 annually, suffers further losses related to the team above that, and has lost opportunity costs to consider, so with 6 years (?) remaining on the contract up to $10,000,000 to get them out seems plausible. It would probably take that too, the arrangement doesn't get much more ideal for the Flames.

The Leafs farm team, the Marlies, play at Ricoh Coliseum. It would be a logistical nightmare for two pro-hockey teams and an NBA team to all play at the ACC.

Only reason I like the Heat in Abby now that I live here, is that I might have a chance to see the Marlies. I really don't see much support for the Heat around town except for the city-posted banners.

Except 2 of those 3 teams use hardwood floors, not ice surface.

Ice takes longer to set up and what not.

Pretty sure he's referring to the LA Kings, and I'm also pretty sure the Sacramento Kings home arena isn't the Staples Center

With your name I can't help of thinking about the Sacramento Kings and yes all the talk has been about them relocating to Seattle but of course it's not for sure since there has been counter bids.
