Thinking of upgrading my Z10 to a Z30 for the battery life but I'm curious if they're releasing any flagship phones this year or Q1 of next year

knight604 04-14-2014 10:13 AM

Only qwerty and won't see a touch one until maybe q4 of 2015 or early 2016

twstd_reality 04-17-2014 06:15 PM

Do it! I did and it is definitely an upgrade.

BB World is OK but I really needed the Android runtime to keep me committed to the platform for the long haul. I've downloaded using Snap: Instagram, Youtube, Google Maps, Google Earth, Yelp, Songza, Grooveshark, Pinterest, Zinio, Netflix, Viber, Tapatalk, Tumblr, Netflix, Snapseed, Pocket, WD MyCloud (Google Drive read/write), Tripadvisor, Urbanspoon and a few more I've probably forgotten. None of those are available on BB World. It's not that losing any one of them is a game-changer for me, but losing all of them, and losing the future ability to have them really puts me at a disadvantage.

CPU's been bumped up a bit but the GPU is really what makes the phone much faster and smoother than a Z10. Wi-Fi direct file transfer and FM radio are also on the Z30 but not the Z10 as well. USB2Go is going to come in handy especially if you use a phone as a mobile computing type solution. Also the battery life is an absolute beast on this thing. It can last two days no charge on moderate usage, while my Z10 couldn't go through 3/4s of a day before dying.

But really the thing I like the most about the Z30 is the design. Looks and feels much more premium than the Z10 did.

knight604 04-17-2014 09:18 PM

FM radio is on the Q10/Q5 as well i think.

bbworld:
Igrann = instagram
fastube= youtube
bemaps pro = google maps

Dont use the rest.

I dont use any android apps anymore because of battery drain.

We should see 10.3 soon before the end of the year with android 4.3 runtime.

"The other two rumored handsets are both BlackBerry models. The BlackBerry Z50 will allegedly become the new flagship model for the Canadian manufacturer sporting a 5.2 inch screen with resolution of 1080 x 1920, and a quad-core processor. This phone is rumored to be the first BlackBerry model out of the gate in Q3 of 2014. Lastly, the BlackBerry Q30 will be a flagship QWERTY equipped model for BlackBerry. The BlackBerry Q30 is expected to arrive in the second quarter of 2014. If all this is true, it sounds like new CEO John Chen is not going to let BlackBerry go down without a fight."

oh dear rumors got me rustled

BBMme 04-21-2014 10:39 AM

classic might be released on Nov 2014, just in time for Christmas=P

Are you on Z10 or Z30? I couldn't even get my batt to 0% on the Z30 playing music and videos off youtube all day long. The thing will last a 8AM-12AM day if you charge it to 100% overnight no matter what you do to it. Z10 is another story. Igrann is OK but not the real thing. Might check out Fasttube. $4 isn't a lot but I'm not paying for BeMaps Pro when Google Maps does the same for free.

Sauce? I'll believe it when I see it but I think the Z3 has to sell well first before they bother with more devices. I think only that and the Q20 is confirmed. I would guess that Z30 is gonna remain the "flagship" for the majority of the rest of this year.

Good timing, 10.3 better blow through the door though. I think full-on Android app integration is needed for BB to survive as a handset maker; BB World may work for some but 1.1 million BB10 devices sold last quarter says it doesn't work for most.

knight604 04-28-2014 01:36 PM

I have q10 z10 and z30, my main device is z30.

Z3 pre-orders are sold out in Indonesia, I think I read it was only 150 usd.

Thats going to boost the handset sale quite a bit and with the return of the belt on the new qwerty should sink hooks into the bbos7 users that are hesitant to change to q10.

I project the stock to double by q2 2016

So I gave a Blackberry Q10 a quick spin.

Initial thoughts:
- Love the UI. I'm familiar with is coming from a Playbook and a Nokia N9. Everything made sense. I love the swipe interface and the "Hub." Awesome to have a unified messaging centre.
- E-mail client. Hands down - still the best.
- Phone was fast.
- Blackberry has their network access protocol stacks packed down solid. Voice quality, reception and handovers were excellent. Samsung and Apple should learn from them.
- People complain about the camera - I think it's great!

Gripes with the phone:
- Nothing really, other than the fact that the "lock" button is way up top and there is no other way to lock the phone using other buttons or through the pre-programmed lockout timer.
- A little too "big" for my hands. It's too tall, length wise so reaching for some parts of the phone, especially the lock button requires a bit more effort.

Overall, an amazing phone but I have to go back to my Nokia N9 as a specific application I use regularly isn't jiving with BB10 (beta phase.) I strongly recommend people who gave up on Blackberry another chance. :)

(P.S. - I still actively use a Bold 9900.)

Have you tried to see whether an Android APK of that app would work with your phone? Most function decently well.

If the Q10 is too big then the Q20 is gonna be even harder to hold - it's reportedly 3.5" display (same as an iPhone 4s) with a keyboard and toolbelt below it - so it won't get much better. Most manufacturers have been ignoring the market of people who actually want SMALLER phones...

bcrdukes 05-28-2014 11:29 AM

No, I didn't bother with the Android APK. I would simply prefer not to install anything Android. It's not a huge deal though. I still have the phone and will be using it on and off. Still an amazing phone despite the bad rep and hate. :)

BBMme 05-30-2014 10:30 PM

Picking up a Z30 tomorrow. I'm going to every rogers store in lower mainland to see if they have a Z30 in stock haha. Wish me luck

CCA-Dave 05-31-2014 09:55 AM

You know you can just call right?

I got one of the first ones in BC, simply by calling Rogers. The store then put it on hold for me and off I went. Much better than driving around. You're paying stupid bucks to robbers for a reason, use it!

-D

BBMme 05-31-2014 09:26 PM

EPIC FAIL!
didn't get my z30 haha
