Anyone grab a pair of the new Stan Smiths? I'm stuck between the navy and white ones or wait for some all black ones... Though I only saw one online store carry black ones ._.

zetazeta 01-16-2014 12:59 PM

^ im interested in the all blacks as well. Looks like a cheap substitute for all black CP's. Might get a pair of navy as beaters.

Calbeee 01-16-2014 01:38 PM

they are NOT substitutes for CPs in my opinion. stansmiths are so chunky

Hondaracer 01-29-2014 09:43 AM

Red wing 877's I know I've posted them before this is about 1.5 years of heavy use and oil every month

There are a couple good reviews on Reddit. You might have to dig around... if you can't find it PM me and ill see if I still have the link somewhere.

I think MindBomber here said he had a pair, but he's been busy and hasn't had a chance to take pics and write a review.

Hondaracer 01-29-2014 12:11 PM

The opinions on dayton are super mixed online it seems

Quality of the boots usually isn't in question but for international buyers seems like they've had a bunch of issues

trollguy 01-29-2014 12:57 PM

^ that's what I've gathered as well. I think quality ACTUALLY has been a mixed bag..

woob 01-29-2014 06:28 PM

After the W+H collab, they received a bunch of orders and sent out poorly-made pairs to try to keep the turnaround time low. That's probably the source of most of the negative reviews. They've since extended their turnaround time to 80 days to give themselves a chance to put out boots at the quality they were known to have. As such, I feel like there are far fewer issues now than there were even last year.

I'm probably going to end up ordering a pair of service boots this summer so I have them for next fall.

W+H collab attracted a lot of potential customers and shortly after the 2nd collab, they had $125 off coupon during a holiday (canada day?). Tens if not 100+ orders were made during that 1-2 week period which was way too many for their small crew to fulfill in a timely manner. Corners were cut, quality plummeted and some orders took over 16 months to complete. Haven't heard bad reviews since that period though.

Hondaracer 01-29-2014 08:46 PM

Yea like for $500 it's a tough pill to swallow if there is any question in quality..

Do you pay the total amount up front when you place an order?

trollguy 01-30-2014 07:58 AM

i would hope not.. even Alden and Viberg only need a percentage deposit.

trollguy 01-31-2014 01:02 PM

hondaracer, how are the soles holding up on your RWs? it appears mine are starting to separate at the toe for both (left boot being worse). not overly concerned at this point but a bit pissed off since another pair of my boots were just sent back to the manufacturer to be completely 'rebuilt' due to QC issues..
