Family friend moved his family to an Italian villa, 8 bedroom 5 bathroom on 150 acres an hour outside of Rome for 1.3 Canadian

But ya know, Italy is “dangerous” and whatever other BS ya want to spew lol.. Italy is the size of B.C. and ya gotta go 8 hours north of prince George to find a deal like that on the land alone.

CivicBlues 10-24-2024 12:12 PM

How much work needs to be done on the villa to make it habitable?

They giving away houses in Southern Italy for $1 except you have live in a shrinking village full of old people and spend hundreds of thousands to make it livable. Sounds like your friend might have been ripped off.

I personally wouldn't live anywhere south of Florence. South of Rome is basically North Africa infrastructure wise.

Well... you think Vancouver is dangerous tho, so why guffaw at anyone who thinks Italy is?

(I don't think Italy is btw)

That chateau in France is stupid, it's 2.5 hrs from the closest international airport and who wants to take care of 130 acres of land. I guess it's cool to say you have a castle though, even if it's in the middle of literally nowhere.

Required zero work outside of general maintenance. Guy who moved his family was a builder here building custom homes for the last 20+ years but he moved right in and was able to operate portions of it as a bed and breakfast for friends and family immediately.

Edit* this is the place:

https://i.imgur.com/uOeaLcK.jpeg

Was 980,000 euros so just under 1.5 CAD.

I could sell my 120 year old Vancouver home on a typical lot and have money left over :lol

The older I get, the more I feel like Canadians as a whole are A) generally ignorant, and B) have convinced themselves the “norm” we live under is somehow special or worth what we pay. Oreviouslt some of those ideals may have been valid but increasingly, I don’t see how people who scrape together a living justify it.

68style 10-24-2024 12:22 PM

Being a custom builder is a whole lot of safety net and peace of mind in buying an entire villa... you know if anything goes wrong you can fix it yourself for pennies on the dollar.

Probably was able to inspect the place thoroughly too and knows what he's looking for/at.

Hondaracer 10-24-2024 12:26 PM

Well yea, some bum who’s an administrative assistant probably ain’t moving abroad regardless.

donk. 10-24-2024 12:49 PM

17 bedrooms? None of you are Pdiddy

unit 10-24-2024 12:52 PM

all i can think of how many landscapers and cleaners i would need to hire full time to maintain a house like that.

68style 10-24-2024 01:00 PM

Buying a place like that is basically saying you have no plans to interact with the rest of humanity ever again. Having a portion of it as an AirBnB is good though, people coming to you and they may want to talk or may not want to... but yah growing your own food or spending all day every day maintaining everything / going to a market every day and making everything from scratch.

Asia is back up plan, just rent a house in country side Japan for like $1000 a month. Don't even have to buy. You can keep your property here as rental income. Or sell and throw it all into the market.

The Producer 10-24-2024 01:22 PM

i like how the guys who non stop shit on immigration are just casually talking about emigrating wherever they want to.

You can say 6 months as visitor. Pretty much how the snow birds do it. Just take a boat to Korea then go back. I just looked and you can do some investment visa where you spend $50000 to start a business. Air BNB?

Population of less than 1200 with next to nothing nearby. You will need a full time live in staff of at least 3 or 4 min. The nearest major city is 40 KM away.
I could see spending up to a half a mill a year on it.

Hondaracer 10-24-2024 03:58 PM

Again, in B.C. and most of Canada, in that exact same scenario, you don’t even get the bare land for that price.

Interesting, I just looked up vacant land for sale in AB, 100+ acres only with a $2M canadian cap.

66 results.

That's a whole of something you said doesn't exist? 13 of them are 1 hour or less from downtown Calgary too. I didn't even look North of Red Deer or else it would be larger.

There are 211 listings in all of BC of 100+ acres for less than $2M btw :toot:

Hehe 10-24-2024 06:26 PM

It's a chateau people. A fucking chateau!!! Imagine the crazy org... I mean the party you can throw in there. :fuckthatshit:

If it wasn't all that beatup or if I actually know some decent contractors in France, I can totally see myself dropping 2M just for to turn it into a filming location or a crazy AirBNB.

I have had some of our family properties rented out for filming... the pay is amazing for the duration that they are in.

68style 10-24-2024 06:28 PM

Bruh, you can't even convince people in the lower mainland to cross 1 bridge to see each other... how you gonna get anyone to come to the French countryside hahaha

Chateau man... the keyword is chateau. How many times in your life do you get asked to go to party in a fucking chateau? If any of RS ballers tell me that they are hosting a party at a chateau in France, I'd spend the 2000 or whatever it cost now to fly there.

Come on 68style... I know moving to AB will eventually turn you into an old conservative dude.. but a fucking chateau!!!

Here's a link to the interior of that listing.
