I think the thing that scares people into being racist toward them, is they bring that feeling out in the open of being a nobody and that you’re not special and just one of the masses trying to scrape out some meagre living… and that feeling scares the shit out of your average North American.

JDMDreams 09-12-2025 08:37 AM

Yes Tim Hortons and fast food tastes like shit now, bring back the Filipinos and lgs. And what has deodorant ever done to you brother and sister? It's not even as hot as home country

noclue 09-12-2025 08:40 AM

It wasnt that long ago when the “local” hondaracer was complaining about the mothball/garlic smelling chinese in expensive cars buying up richmond.

If we bring back investor visas again and china allows more emigration the flavour of the month will revert back to Asians

Is this going to become a gathering of racists? :lol

There are enough Asians with enough money and power here they won’t be the target like they used to. Majority group here are whites followed by Asians (Chinese specifically) and they’re probably the two most racist groups lol. They’ll find someone further down the line to team up against.

Yeah they cut corners, you would too if you were paid substandard wages and had to live in a shack with 10 other dudes. But given the proper circumstances, I've seen some east indians really do amazing shit.

My buddy at the port is one such example. He came with nothing, literally jack shit. He got his masters in business in Calcutta, came and worked as a security guard at some lame transload in Richmond. Somehow got a job as a day labourer in the transload, then worked his way up to senior manager of that transload before jumping ship to us.

Now hes married, has a beautiful wife, 3 great kids and lives in a huge house with his mother and father and family. He made it, and he did it all by himself.

all these buddy guys are trying to do the same; can you blame them for trying to squeak out a living?

stories like this are what i tell people is the difference between living in a competitive country like korea, china, japan, etc..
over here you can have a HS degree and still have a very good chance of becoming middle class or higher.
over there if you don't get into a top uni, you will more than likely struggle for the rest of your life.

bcrdukes 09-12-2025 08:52 AM

Where is Hondaracer any way?

westopher 09-12-2025 09:08 AM

Probably jet setting to a democratic socialist country so he can come back and ask why we can’t be like them while simultaneously voting to do the exact opposite.

Youth employment in Canada these days -- defined as employment for those in the 15 - 24 range -- are nearly at an all-time low though. From kids in HS all the way up to university graduates are having a difficult time finding work. And since post secondary education has become so common place nowadays, and with the cost of living becoming so high, I'd hardly think just having a HS degree would be enough to just remain in the middle class, let alone becoming one.

Of course if you know how to do OF properly... :ifyouknow:

The racism against Indians is kind of similar to the racism against China people a decade or so ago. They are doing something that stood out in not a good way attracting attention themselves.

A decade ago, it was the lavish splash or wealth or the perception of it, and the utter disregard of public etiquette that garnered a lot of hate. The parents who let their kids pee in the decorative plants in a mall, the dozens of supercars racing on the highway, the perception of students buying up all the properties in Vancouver and driving up prices.

Nowadays with Indians, it's similar in that it's public perception. Indian TFWs taking all the entry level jobs (that no one wants), utter disregard of rules on the road promoted by a lot of these people doing gig type work, and the rumoured 10 people in a 1 bedroom type of deal. Whether or not you believe those perceptions or not is up to you and some explanation on a forum isn't going to change your mind easily.

Like all people and cultures, there's going to be some really bright ones and some really stupid people, and everything in between. Being in tech I've worked with A LOT of Indian people, and trust me the range is massive. The stupid is truly stupid when they can't even figure out how Monopoly Deal works and can't play with card game I'd expect a 10 year old to understand, but that happens across all cultures.

Re youth employment - i don't know how much of that is just lazy damn kids. I can say from my circle, community, and work - a lot of these kids have parents that did decently well and the kids lack motivation and drive. Purely anecdotal but kids/teens that were born here have become a lot lazier in the last 15 to 20 years. Hell, even recent grads don't have the same work ethic or drive. Or maybe I'm just getting old and need to yell at a cloud lol.

Gerbs 09-12-2025 10:14 AM

From what I understand, everyone under 25 have parents that can provide them with free rent or free condo, free or shared car, free food cooked at home.

So why strive to work harder when a civic is now $44K and a DP starts at $100-120K for surrey.

If you get a degree in a good field, you'll make around $40-60K USD after tax while your parents collect more than that from their tenants

It’ll blow over because they’ll just start hating another group of immigrants. Possibly Filipinos next. In Ireland they went after Indians and now they’re going after Filipino healthcare workers. It’s sad what we’ve become as a society.

westopher 09-12-2025 10:34 AM

Ireland is legitimately one of the most progressive countries when it comes to immigration in the world right now. Hard to believe the Filipinos there are getting the Indian in Canada treatment.
Edit: just did a quick googlizer and it seems like the rise has been huge this year. Sad to see.

Migration, the cost of living, housing and unemployment are driving a populist movement that targets anyone who isn’t Irish. I believe just last week outside Belfast some thugs torched six cars belonging to Filipino workers. It also doesn’t help when you have Musk and McGregor who wants to be the next leader, talking about “Irish first” and attacking immigrants.

theres def a lot of that for sure... a lot of the brown guys i know are the most critical of the new immigrants, or at least the least shy to talk about it since they feel like they are allowed to.

The Irish can't even stop hating on the "wrong" Irish, I can't imagine this is going well.

That said I think JDM was attempting humour, but he’s pretty notoriously bad at it.

TikTok in Toronto is wild, I landed at YYZ, got a new phone, and the first 100 items were racist / crime reels

Lol, this topic is going OT, but I just wanted to add that most of the Indian hate content is being pushed by Indian accounts chasing views and clicks. Here’s a wild story from last month about an account pushing far right content...

re: TFWs - on my road trip to Calgary earlier this year I stopped by some places that were clearly all staffed by TFWs, namely the hotel in Revelstoke I stayed in and the McDonald's I stopped at in Golden.

Compared to some of other small town places I stopped by the TFW run places were really well run - the hotel was the cleanest and the staff were the nicest. The folks at the McDonald's were friendly, hard working, and on top of their shit even though the place was as busy as I've ever seen a McDonald's.

Crazy how someone participating in that is allowed in Canada still. Literally bringing in TFWs for disinformation sleeper cell shit lol.
