all nations are receding into isolationism nowadays. Thanks to that orange muppet. People can blame the immigrants for failing economies, lack of opportunities, resources, etc. its the oldest playbook in human civilization.

You would figure with all this internet shit we be more unified and connected. nope... instead its even more divisive because you can easily retract into your own echo chamber and stay there.

Im just waiting for that UFO who shrugged off that hellfire missile to start blasting. This timeline is horseshit.

JDMDreams 09-15-2025 08:07 AM

I just googled this, they banned foreign buyers as of Jan 1 2023 now the market is shit, they got what they want.

6793026 09-15-2025 08:12 AM

It's not they... a lot of hard working students / couples who bought in 2023 really got in shit too. Those who risked on deposits on some 3rd tier developement whom just got foreclosed or whatever you call it.

I say the same thing each time people blame the immigrants. Hey, your grandma just sold her 1980 bungalow and now is a 1.5 M from a house that was 300k. You know your mom and dad got a chunk, and grandma also paid for your university... yeah.. no one talks about that...
OH now she can't buy an apartment cause she's really working retail and wanting to live on Burrard drinking $7 Uber delivered lattes wonders why renting is so expensive while her Fido bill is 100GB at $120 / mth.

“The market is shit”
Proceeds to look at 1.9 million dollar teardowns in east Van.
People want affordable housing but don’t want their “investment” that they live in to go down so what is gonna make Canadians happy?

Badhobz 09-15-2025 08:36 AM

Excuse me, while I go purchase a brand new 992.2 GT3RS. :accepted:

i don't mind it going down, just not below what i paid for it :lol :badpokerface:LUL:nyan:Kappa

and i want the property taxes to go down with it
:okay:

westopher 09-15-2025 09:49 AM

I mean then, you don’t want affordable housing, which is fine. Just don’t ask for it. It’s just that you can’t have both.

CivicBlues 09-15-2025 10:00 AM

We should look to our great ancestors for answers to our housing dilemma (both whites and Chinese) just colonize some poor backwater and kill the natives take their land.

Like Portugal?

Win-win-win!

Badhobz 09-15-2025 10:08 AM

we have plenty of land. we are just hampered by our inability to exploit it. All these fucking chug treaties are idiotic and holding back the economic progress of canada. You lost the war okay? take your shinny beads and go the fuck home already.

We have super low population density, we just need more people to move to the interior which they would do, if those places had adequate jobs and incentives. We are blessed with abundant natural resources and yet we give it away pennies on the dollar. This country should be rich as fuck.

If the government pulled a move like what they did in Georgia, basically incentivize people to move there by having minimal corporate tax, sales tax, etc. Then we can revamp places like the Yukon, NWT, Sask, MB, etc. Or even the interior of BC, start creating special economic zones ala shanghai or shenzhen. Kelowna and Kamloops should have wayyy bigger populations

CivicBlues 09-15-2025 10:11 AM

K, you fuckers move to Kelowna, Alberta, NWT. Send all the buddy guys there to serve you like indentured slaves.

I'm happy where I am on the waterfront thank you very much.

See where that discourse gets us? No one wants to give up what they have already but we also can't force people to live where it's less desirable.

supafamous 09-15-2025 10:13 AM

Man, 3 pages of kinda racism talking about who is stealing more from Canada and no mention of First Nations. C'mon folks, we can do better! /s

well a few of us already moved to AB. GS8, 69Stylez, etc and they did it without any real incentives.

If the government were to say give kelowna zero sales tax, lower personal tax, you dont think half the people here would flood over there? its all about incentives.

CivicBlues 09-15-2025 10:26 AM

I was just in Edmonton, where I'm from actually but no longer have any ties to. I don't think I'd ever move back there unless I want a giant house for my non-existent offspring to run around in. The city is flat, featureless and dusty. 4 hours to anything of naturalistic interest. Just nah... you'd have to give me a free house and 6 months PTO before I'd consider it. And that's in the summer!

And with half the country on fire for half the year now, that doesn't really sweeten the pot either.

Badhobz 09-15-2025 10:30 AM

get the fuck outta here? youre from edmonoton too? thats where we first landed. I went to that scared heart elementary school where the nuns beat the engrish into my ass.

i really enjoyed my childhood there. i thought it was very wholesome. We just played street hockey, watched hockey, pushed those IGA karts around pretending it was a race car, and then go to west edmonton mall which was like a heaven on earth for a kid.

God damn you're the king of one-uppers.

How the hell do you have so many damn stories?! A Chinese marvel you are.

westopher 09-15-2025 10:44 AM

Of course hobz was a mall rat.
Edmonton is nice in terms of indoor entertainment, geographically it sucks. It’s so difficult to live a healthy lifestyle there. It’s a good place for certain lifestyles, not mine.

CivicBlues 09-15-2025 10:49 AM

Yeah I was born there in the Royal Alex. I've got no memories of the place though other than as an adult visiting, I left when I was 5.

Badhobz 09-15-2025 10:50 AM

i left after grade 4 so i never had any negative experience with the place. Loved edmonton.

love that mall!!!! the mini sub was my favorite and the pirate ship. i always wanted to be a pirate.

bcrdukes 09-15-2025 10:50 AM

You guys need an Edmonton reunion.

Badhobz 09-15-2025 10:51 AM

we will once the oilers win the cup. fucking twice in a row that they were close!

CivicBlues 09-15-2025 11:00 AM

Gotta say, the ICE district is pretty neat. Wish I was there for the Oilers' run at the cup this year...or last :p

westopher 09-15-2025 11:10 AM

You’ll have the chance to do it again this year to watch us lose to Florida in the final again.

Badhobz 09-15-2025 11:16 AM

DONT FUCKING SAY THAT SHIT!!!!

Eff-1 09-15-2025 11:16 AM

Sorry if this was mentioned earlier, but has anyone been following this situation in West Van?

https://globalnews.ca/news/11415256/...ilt-structure/

They built an entire second building with zero permits, and right at the top of an embankment leading down to a creek. District Council voted (twice, now) to force them to demolish it.
