New alt coins are a waste of time imo... difficulty is low, ASIC miners come in, take a bunch of coins, difficulty goes up, then they leave for the next one. Then the difficulty is too high to run the network when they leave

Krayzie135 05-01-2013 05:26 PM

actually not with scrypt coints ie LTC, FTC, NVC, CHN

ASICs cannot mine them, they can only do the SHA-256 algorithm

SkinnyPupp 05-01-2013 07:27 PM

Yes there are now alt scrypt coins

But to what end? It's hard enough to build an economy with Bitcoin. There is room for ONE alternative most likely, unless a third actually brings something new and useful to the table.

Ulic Qel-Droma 05-01-2013 09:10 PM

get ready for the ASICS guys

got this email today

Spoiler!

included were pics with stuff packaged and ready to ship. so seems legit this time lol.

Spoiler!

lol i wonder how their shit got fucked up.

SkinnyPupp 05-01-2013 09:13 PM

They probably decided to mine for themselves for a few months before shipping :fuckthatshit:

it's called quality assurance, they have to test the products thoroughly

So are you excited for your mini rig SC?

Hondaracer 05-02-2013 09:24 AM

So do you guys think LTC is a long term hold kind of thing hoping it achieves similar success to BTC or the money to be made is with buy low sell high type shorter term trading?

Krayzie135 05-02-2013 02:48 PM

I have a jalapeno on order, 3 Sept 2012 so im kinda of close to the front of the line...

tarobbt 05-02-2013 11:38 PM

BTC and LTC are crashing :fuuuuu:

SkinnyPupp 05-02-2013 11:54 PM

Yup there's a big lawsuit between CoinLab and MtGox... Speculators are shitting their pants, so get ready to buy again when it hits the floor! :awwyeah:

Coles notes and my perspective on this:

mtgox is run by a bunch of goofballs who happened to become the big exchange by fluke. It was actually originally a place to buy and sell Magic: The Gathering cards (hence the name: Magic The Gathering Online Exchange)

Based on all the downtimes and weirdness, there was a need for a properly run BTC exchange. Particularly one for North American customers

CoinLab stepped in as a startup, with proper funding and backed by a bank.

They entered a partnership with MtGox, to basically take over as the main exchange for North America. MtGox would handle the rest of the world.

MtGox was supposed to transition all NA accounts to CoinLab, and stop serving these customers. They did neither, and that is where we are now.

With the main exchange being sued for $75 of real actual money, there is major doubt on what will happen to them. If they disappear, 80% of all exchanges will have to move elsewhere. Presumably CoinLab expects it to be them, but with the lawsuit, a lot of people distrust them, and see them as trying to forcefully take over the exchange. There are plenty of others (btc-e, bitstamp, cavirtex, libertybit) to consider

Also, this is a case of one member of the Bitcoin Foundation suing another... these guys are supposed to work together to make Bitcoin a success, so it's a pretty fucked up situation

GPUs aren't liking this warm weather.

Hondaracer 05-03-2013 03:42 PM

I've been running a steady 73 deg for the last few weeks and even these last few days now

May need to add another fan though on the side of my case that shoots right at the video card
Posted via RS Mobile

Presto 05-03-2013 04:17 PM

I just took off the side of the case, and have a fan pulling air from the open window, so it pushes away the hot air coming off the GPUs

Krayzie135 05-03-2013 09:16 PM

man it sucks paying $0.20kw/h right now. living in alberta blows

tarobbt 05-03-2013 09:23 PM

Just submerge your gpu under water :)

Or if your cheap pick up a Dwood bracket + Antec 620.

My Gigabyte 7970 OC runs at 65 deg at 100% fan. Hoping to drop temps to maximum of 50 deg once my backplate arrives.

Does anyone know why litecoin difficulty decreased from 480 down to 396.6?? Isnt difficulty suppose to increase over time?

It changes based on computational power... if people leave for other coins, or stop mining, then it has to be adjusted back down. The goal is to maintain a steady release of coins no matter how many people are mining

Krayzie135 05-07-2013 02:19 PM

With all the new coins that have been coming out its taking hashing away from LTC

Hondaracer 05-07-2013 03:37 PM

Chinacoin? :/

CNC had a good pump and dump. Made about 4BTC in 2 days of mining :)

Presto 06-22-2013 11:54 AM

Lots of recent action with Litecoin (LTC). It went up 50% in the last couple days. Current price is 0.0312BTC and rising.

SkinnyPupp 06-22-2013 06:56 PM

MtGox is expected to start trading LTC in July

Presto 06-22-2013 10:24 PM

CNC getting delisted on BTC-e. It's crashing hard.
