Report: Penguins made Canucks trade offer for Kesler before Olympic break

According to a report from TribLive.com reporter Rob Rossi, the Pittsburgh Penguins "pitched" the Vancouver Canucks on a potential Kesler deal before the Olympic break. Apparently that deal centered around a package that would've included 25-year-old checking center Brandon Sutter, and 20-year-old prospect Derrick Pouliot.

A year ago I would've thought this was a good idea. But with BoHo on his way, Brandon Sutter would've just been an immediate fix that would've had to be dealt when Horvat develops into what's basically the same role. At this point I think Kes has got to go for a scoring top 6 forward.

Not a fan of that return for the Canucks for Kes. Sutter while a great shutdown checking center, has really limited offensive upside/talent. Canucks biggest need to address is scoring, Sutter as the main piece coming back does not address that.

Maata or Bennett++ better be coming back for Gillis to start srsly considering

Stl must be seriously planning on making a run this year. Miller in the last year of his deal at age 33. And will certainly have a big price tag to renew as he was making 6.25 on this deal.

They won't re-sign Miller.

Halak had a horrendous contract which they just got rid of. Next year they will bring up Allen and welcome his lower cap hit (and arguably better ability than both the outgoing Halak and the still-backup Elliot).

So much for Ott coming here.
