If Fleury's the only goalie available, I'm not going to bother picking Penguins as a final four candidate for my pool.

He played a few games in the A, and they recalled him..

But I also read Vokoun's not expected to play. He's the third Goalie in the depth chart.

That Ehlers kid looks just like the skilled forward the Canucks need...

Simulated 04-16-2014 10:00 AM

Leaning towards ehlers myself. Put him on a line with horvat and kassian.

Didn't we draft a small, fast, skilled forward in Jordan Schroeder? :troll:

Mike Oxbig 04-16-2014 10:22 AM

we already have 2 two way center(horvat, gaunce), 2 top 6 wingers (shinkaruk, Jensen) it make sense to gamble on a game breaker pick like Ehler who is putting up Drouin numbers in the Q

I'm also not a big fan players under 6'0 but at 5'11, maybe he can still push an inch?

Nabatron 04-16-2014 10:24 AM

If Linden is going to go the Boston bruins model he will most likely pick Nick Ritchie guy is a beast and a quick writer huge power forward...if he wants the Detroit model he will go for ehlers

Nabatron 04-16-2014 10:26 AM

Don't want any small forwards like Schroeder unless they are studs like Kane, drouin, And others

pat kane, crosby, parise, datsyuk, zetterberg, kessel,

Nick Ritchie is inconsistant as scout says but his player comparison is Brendan Shannahan :derp:

Hondaracer 04-16-2014 10:33 AM

Lindens gonna go "off the board" to get a guy with heart lol

Apparently a few of the Canucks were at Celebrities last night and The Famous Warehouse beforehand. FB friend of mine claims they were doing shots of tequila with Kesler who was hammered. /coolstorybro

/inb4 Power Forward takes 5-6 years to develop before seeing significant impact.

I got a gut feeling Linden will listen to Pat Quinn...go with a local BC boy in Virtanen.

jeedee 04-16-2014 11:23 AM

If Linden wants a BC boy he better go after Reinhart :accepted:

Nabatron 04-16-2014 11:27 AM

^^lol good luck with that! Reibhart projected #1 or #2 doubt canucks will even come close to getting that pick ubless they trade their pick and a stud prospect...virtanen looks like a nice pick but Ritchie for me would be the all around package big, good hands, sick wrister, fights pretty much like lucic also guy drives the net like a bull...

Drafting power forwards are tricky. Sure its easy to dominate juniors when you're the biggest guy on the ice but what happens when you get to the NHL? I like ehlers a lot; he seems drouin like in many ways.

Derek_N84 04-16-2014 02:42 PM

I'm hoping for Ehlers, we haven't even fully developed our current power forward project in Kass please don't draft another.

I'm hoping Calgary pulls another Jay Feaster move and drafts off the board like Jankowski. lol

Opens room for us. haha

Virtanen probably shouldn't go top 10 ... Just my opinion ... Also, Linden isn't exactly a hometown boy coming out of Medicine Hat, AB ... We seemed to do okay with him and he adopted Vancouver as his new home ... Where the player is born should have little influence on whether or not you draft him; at least not in the first few rounds.

Boom or bust prospect like Ehlers at 6 seems a bit high ... Too many small guys who were drafted top 10 because they excelled in junior have fizzled out at the NHL level (Brule, Hickey, Gagner (kind of), Hamill, Filatov) ... The small guys who have panned out went were either drafted 1st overall (i.e. Kane, Stamkos) or were top ranked heading into the draft (i.e. Turris) ... Ehlers will drop, IMO, just because of his size ...
