I was exaggerating saying stick was there well before, but fact of the matter is explained below. To say that Quick robbed him is a stretch, like I said he was lucky Brassard shot it into the area his stick occupied. Had Brassard had a split second to look at the net, or the puck had flipped on end a bit differently, Quick would not have 'robbed' Brassard. I've made saves like that before and I would never take credit for meaning to do that. Like below, I give Quick credit for getting there and playing the percentage but the shot hit him instead of him making the save--if you understand the difference

There is no difference. He came across and made the save, its as simple as that. You're making it so much more complicated.

As for you not giving yourself credit for a save like that? Like what? Why wouldn't you? You kept the puck out of the net, as in, saved it from going in. Of course you came across laterally, and hung your stick out to stop the puck didnt you? If it hits you, or any part of your equipment, its what you meant to do, is it not? Absolutely it is. As someone already stated, theres no such thing as a lucky save. I believe all goalies move themselves and equipment with the purpose to stop pucks, and if they do its a save and if they dont its a goal, or hopefully hits the post.

In the end its my own opinion. For a goalie to use his stick in that fashion to make a save is impressive, and doing it moving laterally to close his gaping net feels like robbery.

Lol... of course the shot "hit him"... the only save where the shot doesn't "hit you" is a poke check and that doesn't even count as a save.

Canucks fans want anyone with "cup winner" on their resume as their coach lol

I'd have no problem with Bylsma landing here. After watching him on 24/7 I thought he was a great person/coach.

Not saying he's the absolute best, just saying if it happened I'd feel better about it than I did about the Torts hiring.

SkinnyPupp 06-13-2014 06:42 AM

If the team on the ice doesn't improve dramatically, it doesn't matter who the coach will be.

murd0c 06-13-2014 06:44 AM

Crow is a great coach and if he came here again I would be ok with that. It would be fricken weird for sure but I have always like him.

Can't make any moves when half the roster is on NTC's........

...unless of course a player is unhappy and wants out ;)

Yup there's a few of those or so I hear

Hondaracer 06-13-2014 07:53 AM

Crow ain't coming back, can't beleive people even give it an ounce of consideration.

That would be doing the exact opposite of what they've promised since

murd0c 06-13-2014 07:59 AM

They might be trying to bring him back as another part of the organization? I know he loves BC and I'm sure he still has a place in the lower mainland since I have seen him out for dinner a number of times over the years.

Hondaracer 06-13-2014 08:12 AM

Continue in the futility of the old boys club, keep bringing people back into the organization that never achieved any success

The bottom line is that playing in net is complicated. It's all about playing the percentages to make the save as a goalie. Make your self look big and try to take as much of the net as possible. I have made numerous saves where I was lucky and the puck just hits me even though i have zero vision of the puck. There's 2 kinds of saves for goalies, as stated earlier a blocking save is one of them where you just play the percentages. I'm not arguing that Quick's save was lucky or not, but he just played the right percentages and did what he can to take the bottom half of the net away to give the shooter less options. Quick is amazing moving laterally and his flexibility is crazy; I wish I could do that :(

It's good that Benning is actually going through the list of available coaches.

And not just go for anyone.

If Kesler doesn't get traded and say we have the "same lines" as last season, I actually don't mind seeing how they perform. Just a shitty season especially with Henrik being injured last year.

Kinda don't mind seeing 4 lines of having Henrik, Kesler, Matthias, Richardson as our centres.

Compare them to

Kings: Kopitar, Carter, Stoll, Richards
Hawks: Toews, Handzus, Saad, Shaw?
Stl: Backes, Berglund, Lapierre, ?
SJ: Thorton, Couture, Pavelski, ?

Definitely need an upgrade over booth. Can't pay a guy 4 million and expect him to play 3rd line. Use that money for a second line winger. Hopefully Kassian turns out better next season. And Burr the monster comes back with vengeance and scores like crazy.

On the topic of goaltending...

Goalies have a "toolbox" full of saves they instinctively use.

Not every goalie does the same thing in certain situations,
but given the same situation over and over again, they'll most likely do the exact same thing.

Such as Hasek, he seemed very random with his saves, but every thing he did wasn't random to him.
They were all calculated (unorthodox) set moves he had in his "toolbox" that he whipped out when given in the specific scenarios.

On the terms of "lucky saves", some are truly lucky...
Such as screen shot saves, where you just drop in the butterfly cause you literally just lost sight of the puck/play, and hope the puck hits you.

Or one's where you've been deked out of your jockstrap, and the shooter shoots it right at you instead of the 2 feet of open net.

But I don't consider it exactly a "lucky save" when you know what you're doing, using a set "toolbox" blocking save trying to play the percentages. Otherwise Luongo's just a very lucky goalie, who's known to play a deeper blocking style.

There was definitely luck involved in Quick's save, but not to the point that it should be discredited on Quick's part. He didn't give up on that play and had to react to get his stick there, and Brassard didn't just shoot it at Quick's body.

Another way to look at this is, did Quick make a good save, or did Brassard mess up?
I think generally, people will say Brassard made use of his opportunity. Not his best attempt, but it was decent given in that situation. But it's just that Quick robbed him.
Where as in an alternate scenario, you can say the shooter had a wide open net, but whiffed on the puck, missed the net, or shot it right at the goalie (where the net wasn't even open in the first place). What a waste of a chance, with the blame on the shooter. But that isn't the case here.

Not really racist! 06-13-2014 11:40 AM

lol @ Crow rumors

Botch made a huge fuss about it and article over literally one sentence from Crow, he has nothing to write so he's just reaching and exaggerating

"I've been in contact with all three teams (looking for a coach) and have had varying degrees of success," said Crawford.

"I hope I get a chance to speak with (Trevor Linden), but dont have anything set, yet," Crawford said.

the rest is just retarded speculation, and its Crow contacting them, not the opposite :lawl:

dbaz 06-13-2014 01:11 PM

they wont hire crow, unless for assistant

rather they sign players that have won a cup/cups. so they actually have a solid voice in locker room. coach needs to be someone who knows manage games and not be afraid of switching lines if shit isnt happening
