So everyone seems to be taking the Nokia path of Plastic cases and Multiple colours

Am not interested in the fingerprint scanner more NSA crap ;)

Lomac 09-10-2013 11:59 AM

I'll admit I'm not a fan of fingerprint scanners. I used to work for a company that had 'em in order to gain access to a few sections of the building. The owner was super proud of them and boasted how they were unhackable and all that jazz. So one day we managed to snag a fingerprint off of his mug and walked into his office after using that print. :lol Needless to say he quickly changed all fingerprint scanners with something a little more conventional. Now obviously in this case it's designed more for convenience than actual security, but I feel that it's more of a gimmick than anything else.

The processor specs are pretty good for the 5s. Would have been nice to see them try a bit harder with the camera and opt for 120fps in 1080p instead of 720p, but that'll probably be in the 6. Also would have liked them to introduce NFC. Curious why they still haven't done that.

Also, that gold colour? :heckno: Out of all the colours available to them, gold is one of the gaudiest they could have chosen.

DanHibiki 09-10-2013 12:03 PM

The gold will be popular amongst females. A few girls on fb were like "OMG gold! I'm sold!"

I'm also gonna stick with my 5 until something more remarkable is introduced. Ios7 will already keep the older phones fresh a little while longer.

The iPhone sensor is about security. Apparently it requires "live flesh" in order to work. You can't just use a duplicate of a print to gain access. This is what Authentec was working on when Apple bought them and is described in some of Apples recent patent applications.

The fingerprint data is encrypted and stored inside the A7 chip (what Apple calls the "enclave"). It never leaves the phone or gets uploaded to any servers.

Oh ours had pulse and heat sensors as well. A thin gelatin mold put over a fingertip was more than enough to fool it. But the chances are of someone going through all that trouble to make a mold for a simple phone is pretty slim.

That might work and I'm sure people are going to try it out. There are countless methods to try and fool fingerprint scanners, but they have all been applied to older technology. My understanding of this is that living tissue it not detected by heat or pulse but by the slight electrical charges that are present in a finger. Nowhere in the patents I read is there any mention of heat or pulse detection.

^ $599

MTV Cribs 09-10-2013 01:13 PM

If the 5C was $300-$400 I would have bought 4 of them to replace the iPhone 4. But at $600 I'm not going to buy any at all. The 5C at $600 makes the 5S at $720 a way better deal.

willystyle 09-10-2013 01:28 PM

The most amusing aspect of the 5C is that it is Apple's weapon to better compete with mid-level Android phones in China, India, and other developing countries, where Android dominates in those markets.

However, at a $600 price point with lacking hardware specs, how will they compete with mid-entry Android phones at $300-400 with the same iPhone 5C specs?

They can't compete in the high end either, as all the high-end Android phones have better specs for the same price than the lesser equipped iPhone 5C. Lol

kwy 09-10-2013 01:28 PM

Fingerprint scanner is gimmicky just like face unlock on Android, except when it breaks it'll rape your wallet as well. How very Apple.

MarkyMark 09-10-2013 01:31 PM

I can't believe the 5C costs so much, i thought it would be like a Nexus priced phone.

.Renn.Sport 09-10-2013 01:52 PM

updated my 4S to iOS7 GM, surprisingly its running very smooth compared to beta, in fact its even running better than iOS6!

G 09-10-2013 02:02 PM

I don't know about you guys, but Apple has been pretty good in terms of replacing stuff for free in my experiences (when my home button didn't work, and dead pixel on screen). IMO I wouldn't worry too much if the scanner breaks... just more of a nuisance

only if its under warranty. my home button on my old ip4 broke exactly a month after its out of warranty, no love from apple

mos_skeeto 09-10-2013 02:10 PM

I actually think pricing themselves out of the low-medium range is good for the brand. They're the LV and Benz of cell phones especially with the new bling color.

twitchyzero 09-10-2013 02:15 PM

How I feel about the reveal

Apple knows how to make their chips...64-bit SoC that drive games that rival current-gen console games...2 years ago you had ShadowGun which was comparable to current-gen launch titles...so mobile gaming scene pretty much caught up 4-5 years of console graphical fidelty in about 2 years.

5C is overpriced...$599 is NOT entry-level

sorry for the tin-foil hats but I wont be surprised if something like this is happening behind the scenes.

The reason why they released an iPhone 5C model was to COMPETE in the mid-entry sector because Android's global dominance is currently above 80% mobile market share now, mostly from entry to mid-level price point handsets in developing countries. Not to mention, the sale of the iPhone 4, 4S, and 5 has been slumping in Europe due to the financial crisis over there. Europeans arent spending as much money on high-end handsets like they used to.

APPLE HAD TO DO something to prevent further decrease in market share, so they released the 5C to compete with Android's mid-entry level phones, even if that means that they will have to sacrifice some of the revenue generated from the sale of their high-end device (iPhone 5S).

As we witness today, there's no chance in hell Apple will pick up much sale from the 5C without price reduction. No one in their right mind would buy a 5C over a S4/HTC One for about the same price (for example).

If iPhone 5/5S is a Mercedes-Benz then what's a Galaxy S4/Note 3? Ferrari and Lamborghini?

any word on how much ram is going to be in the phones? i haven't seen it listed anywhere. Would low ram make a difference with the 64 bit chip or does it need more than 1g of ram which was in the 5 to actually notice a difference?

64-bit CPU and OS is useless and unnecessary (for now) when you have under 4GB of RAM, which is essentially what these phones will have.

Hondaracer 09-10-2013 03:17 PM

so does the 5 now suppost ios7?

DanHibiki 09-10-2013 03:23 PM
