That is abit surprising. He just ground out Demian Maia and Tyron Woodley who are both near the top of the pile in the division. I realize he has a boring style and isn't marketable but that is MMA. He likely got let go because hes making $75k/fight and Dana doesn't seem to like to pay anyone more than $50k if they arent in the top 3 in the div.

He's like a jiujitsu version of Jon Fitch.

Highly paid to grind out boring wins that the fans don't like. That's why guys like Dan Hardy and Matt Brown got retained even though they had a losing streak that most people would've been cut for.
