I started the convo, hunting for something for wife now, but the general convo about what is best in the market right now is exactly what I wanted. If N/A got the golf R wagon we wouldn’t need to even debate.

While we are on our dream wish list, if NA got the Audi RS3 hatch, I'd be all over it.

bcrdukes 12-15-2025 06:42 PM

While not the same thing, an acquaintance of mine had an Audi RS3 and it was in the shop so much that Audi Canada bought the car back from them. They drove all but 200KM on it. :D

whitev70r 12-15-2025 06:47 PM

Oh, engine wise, it would be the same wouldn't it? Maybe acquaintance just got a lemon? In Europe, Audi RS3 is generally reliable ... for an Audi that is.

bcrdukes 12-15-2025 06:54 PM

I like your caveat "for an Audi" :D

Correct. It's not the same engine. Hard to say for sure if his unit was a lemon example or if all of them were lemons. It definitely left a sour taste in his mouth. :D

westopher 12-15-2025 07:12 PM

My buddy that had a 2018 rs3 had a great experience for 5 years of ownership. Not sure if that translates to the newer ones though

Badhobz 12-15-2025 08:31 PM

what happened after 5 years? it blew up like every other audi ?

westopher 12-15-2025 08:58 PM

He sold it but probably.

We dont have a lemon law in Canada, how he manage to get audi to buyback the car?

bcrdukes 12-15-2025 10:04 PM

I agree there is no lemon law in Canada but I think he mentioned he took Audi Canada to arbitration or something and they settled it by taking the car back. He ended up getting a base Macan.

I will concede that the guy is 1. an acquaintance and 2. quite possibly a big bullshitter

really? ive never driven one, but it seems to check alot of his boxes. like he said "even if it was just for its looks". jcw awd i wouldnt have it any other way, im sure its a fun enough package for him to steal from his wife for the occasional drive. hes not looking for a fun weekend car/track car.

One last suggestion ... in similar size and a mini SUV, Audi Q3 Quattro. Do doggies like lower trunk to jump onto (if yes, then Golf wagon or A4 Avant is the way to go) or OK with a higher SUV? I heard some dog owners saying doggie can't jump onto SUV cargo area ... what kind of lazy ass dog is that?

The Q3 is a terrible car - rides like SHIT, suspension must be made of wood or smth.

Power delivery is super surgey and weak in the detuned EA888.

CX-5 Turbo is the FAR better car, drove these back to back at auto mall.

Thanks for the heads up professor mop head.

2009 S4 Avant RHD (JDM) for $17.5k. I'm not sure about the price but it is a wagon and it's pretty neat.

Edit: Fixed typo with LHD/RHD

I think you mean RHD ... but yah, very unique. If it was LHD, S4 Avant, this would be a bit of a unicorn and nice long roof wagon.

Here is a low mileage, 2010 NA A4 Avant for price comparison (not apples to apples, per se) - https://www.facebook.com/share/1GR5i6nXMZ/

It does, which was why I was so disappointed with it. I only tried up to the S which was where I stopped. Maybe the JCW is better.

AstulzerRZD 12-16-2025 08:37 AM

Nah I tried the JCW - drives worse than the S with the super lazy Aisin 8 speed.
Chassis feels heavy with AWD, does not really rotate.

Drives way more like a smaller X3 M40i than a Cooper S with little bit more weight.

red kryptonite 12-16-2025 11:27 PM

thats a damn shame. i was looking forward to test driving one some day for shits.

2004 Mini Cooper S.

Assuming it doesn't have many issues, this seems like the deal of the year. Well.. maybe second after that Z3m with the S54 that went for 20k

bcrdukes 12-18-2025 09:54 AM

Wow, considering the mileage on my 04 R53 is 33x,000, this is a steal! (Might need to double budget for maintenance though lol)
