The S2K does not see enough mileage to do mileage-based service, so I do the following:

Oil change 2x a year (once coming out of storage, once going into storage) - I just use Kirkland 5W30 as the intervals are so short.
Diff/trans change every 2ish years.

I used to do oil changes every 3 track days/4 months/5k km, whichever happened first

However last couple of years, I've only had to do it once during the year since I did fewer than 3 track days during the year and didn't drive the car much :lol

Rear diff and trans fluid was every 2 years or 30k km (when I used to daily it), whichever happened first

EvoFire 05-09-2024 06:58 PM

I should probably change my diff fluid after the next track day.

Traum 05-09-2024 07:14 PM

When I was hardcore autox-ing 3x a month and tracking the car at least once every 2 months, I was probably changing the engine oil after every 2 track days.

Tranny and diff fluids were generally somewhere between once every 9 - 12 months.

Brake fluid was anywhere between once every 6 - 18 months, depending on how much I've boiled them.

But really, it depends on your usage. With engine oil and tranny fluid, I find that after the 2nd or 3rd track day, there tends to be a noticeable dropoff in how smooth the engine and shifting feel. So I sort of take that as my cue to time my maintenance.

PCA UCR Track weekend officially start tomorrow. I won't be driving but will be volunteering. :okay:

bcrdukes 05-11-2024 07:23 PM

First PCA UCR Track weekend of the year!

I couldn't arrange for my car to be shipped back to the wrong coast, so I decided to volunteer with the group today. Each May, PCA UCR hosts what they call the Introductory Driving School which introduces novices/newbs the basic theory of high performance driving, including skid pad exercises such as braking technique, acceleration, weight transfer (figure 8 exercises) and visual exercises (looking where you go etc.)

The program's introductory school used to be held at CTMP's Driver Development Training centre where you spent half the morning to noon doing this stuff and you get sent home and come back next month. Naturally, you register for track day to...well...track your car. That was not the case. This time around, they focus on a full day of theory/classroom training and the exercises, and the next day (Sunday) you hit the track all day with the Green run group.

I had the opportunity to participate in the training and help on the track with the new students. Had a great time and also learned a lot, especially dealing with people who are obviously at the top of their professions, have a lot of money, or absolutely new to all of this driving a beat up 944. Very humbling experience in adult education and really not to judge a book by its cover. I managed to get a few instructor ride-alongs in a Cayman GT4, E46 M3, and 997 GT3. Instructors are allowed to bring any car, as long as they are certified PCA instructors. Any how, some random photos to share.

Friends from the Rennsport Region (Quebec) getting ready for their run group. For those of you not aware, Le Circuit Mont Tremblant's track has a very strict noise limitation as people decided to build their homes around and directly in front of the track, and are now complaining factory cars like the GT3, GT3RS, modified cars etc. are too loud, and the penalties are serious. They do it Cain/VPD style and will measure your sounds levels, so a lot of them come over to PCA UCR.

Excuse me, wrong club.

I can't wrap my head around doing an oil change before a car sits. It's all just sitting in the pan. Why? What work is it doing while it's just sitting there?

Used oil contains acids, moisture, fuel, combustion remains and other contaminants that can cause corrosion in an engine. F-series engines are so expensive now... what's a $30 jug of oil to give it a little better sleep during the winter?

Anyone signing up for events in june / july?

Im getting the car prepped this weekend for my next track days, will be looking at signing up for events. Thinking ridge, pacific, and area 27, probably sundays

Costs this year:
Used "new" pilot 4S tires, 900$
Track engine oil, diff fluid, trans fluid, 450$ -diy swap
Brake fluid from last year, "free/120$" -diy swap
Tire mounting, 4w alignment, 350$
Track pads from last year, "free/300$?" - diy swap

Bank account : :okay:

bcrdukes 05-17-2024 09:01 AM

By track engine oil, do you mean a regular oil change? Or specific grade of oil only used for track?

Brake fluid - is this Castrol SRF you're using? Damn.

mb_ 05-17-2024 09:22 AM

Signed up for Speedy Goat at Ridge on August 6th

EvoFire 05-17-2024 09:46 AM

Going to Mission on June 18. Only track I can go to for now without having to be gone for more than one day. Until the kids are older...

Sent the M3 in for tranny and diff fluid change, and brake flush. Ordered some brake scoops and those need to go on soon, hopefully I don't melt my pads this year.

Traum 05-17-2024 09:49 AM

When you add up reg fees, hotel, gas money, maintenance, cost of consumables etc., it generally works out to be a $1k+ affair per event.

But this is where we put our heads into the sand, and just not look at that stuff, right? :alonehappy:

(And this is where tracking the 100hp penalty box at Mission becomes far more appealing lol~)

Now where do I sign up for the next track event?

I believe PCA PNW is hosting their track day event on Thursday, May 30 at The Ridge. I originally wanted to go, but I need to prep my vehicle for shipping. :okay:

Since it's open to all, you can register on Motorsport Reg! :)

Spec calls to change from 5w30 to 15w50 for track use + overfill by 0.5L

SRF fluid, yeah

You can get SRF for ~70ish instead of paying local prices if you shop around. I think Donk uses some fancy oil for his track use, maybe 300V?

I won a few cans of Motul 300V a number of years ago and used it in my Boxster. It was a bad idea, and I cannot recommend it for a dual purpose street/track car. :D

I'll stick to my Walmart Supertech oil, thank you.

It's with the Overdrive guys. No link, they are just running things themselves cause they have enough interest without it. I just go in and pay lol and they put me on the list.

It's $55.09 USD. FCP Euro has it for 87 USD, so more than CAD but I buy once and warranty it.

It's $55usd. If you can't be assed to go drive down for cheaper parts then that's ok you can pay local price.
