Eh used tires are fine. A good opportunity to try different tires haha. While not optimal conditions, still worth it imo. Most of the time at least. Yes, still friends with this person, he's helped me out a ton in other ways. But I'll probably will never buy anything used from him again. While it's not his fault (I doubt he could have known), he's definitely the kind of person that lowballs others and thinks his parts are worth more than they are. I technically only over paid by $75 so whatever. While I normally wouldn't consider purchasing anything from this friend, I was in a pinch and wanted to shave 2 seconds. I wasted my last track day, drifting. Wasn't a total loss tho, learned a bit more about feedback from the car. I think the CRS had about 8 events on it. I'm just shocked because I've gone through 2 fronts while using that pair of rears, and it still has more usable life than the new to me CRS. In regards to the RS4, they last so long that I've used the same set on two different cars hahah. And also purchased another set of them used with very minimal tread left, but those were like $200 for the set. Still got me another 3-4 track days, with the rears very much alive. Which I proceeded to do another few track days on the rears LUL. They literally last forever, the issue is if they heat cycle out and you put them on an axle that doesn't get heat. RE71RS does melt. The first 40% melts quickly, but the pace of wear slows down significantly after that. Then it feels like it lasts forever, and it's even stickier as it gets closer to cords. I probably said "I'll get one more day out of this set" 2-3 times lol. Sent from my SM-G781W using Tapatalk |
Try those Nankang CRS. It's a great 200TW tire with fantastic grip and control. It'll last longer if you can do a proper initial heat cycle, and then let it cure for at least 24 hrs. Quote:

Used track tires isn't a thing on a M3.... Why didn't you swap them front and back and run the CRS on the rear and let it dori dori? Or that too scary at VIMC? |

I realized that after the fact, that i could have swapped them f/r. Or swap on my stockies. |

For those of us who can't afford two sets of track wheels, we usually go to uh Mexico and find a couple of on-ramps. Do some loops and call it good enough. |
I wished I had the luxury of space in my Boxster to carry around a second set of wheels! |
Best Civic Type-R ever made forsure. |
Great driving and great weather at CTMP this past weekend. Saturday was pretty hot, but Sunday was nicer with a breeze with overcast. Track conditions were perfect. Learned some new passing lines, recovery techniques, and strategies on how to maximize the balance of the car to carry the most speed into the apex. Outside of the GT cars blasting past me on the straights, I'm on their tails a majority of the 20 minute sessions, including a handful of passes earned. :D https://i.imgur.com/2Ml12dd.jpeg |

Spent the weekend at Merritt Airport doing Auto-X - some of the fastest courses I've been on. A few power cars were touching 180kph on the straight! Second day they slowed the course significantly to reduce the speed and allow the momentum cars to keep up a bit better. After the last run the car developed a nasty exhaust leak and rattle, hoping it's just some bolts that loosened up thanks to the heat (35c the second day) and dual driving. |
Not to steal roastpuff's thunder, but I just ran the GoPro footage from my weekend and some interesting results from the last session on Sunday. My average lap times last season were between 1:55 to 2:05. After this past weekend, there's an evident improvement in the high 1:40s to 1:50s mark. The higher times are due to traffic and slower GT cars in the pack. :D Nice to see my quickest lap of 1:47:15 based on the new drive lines learned and smoother balance and control of brake, throttle, and steering angles. As the saying goes: If you can drive a slow car fast.. :) https://i.imgur.com/uBmiFH6.jpeg https://i.imgur.com/OpmDc4F.jpeg |

I havent had much fun driving anything over 200hp on a auto-x course I guess this event probably also changes the layout, and will avoid putting a 180 zone in for future events |

Had to remove the cones from the runway overnight so Day 2 they decided to slow the course down a bit so that the risk of going off was less. |
From my own experience/opinion about the Merritt event (which was fantastic!), was that the two days were meant to be slightly different (fast & less fast). You always get Corvette people wanting a fast and open course, versus Miata people wanting something tight with lots of turns. After speaking with some people in the first heat of the first day, they were a little intimidated, but after doing my own runs I didn't find it that bad. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...fe9b67e9_b.jpg |
Interesting land yacht beside your car :lol |

I was more comfortable and trusting of the car by Day 2, I think that helped. Trusting the suspension and tires more and more. |
Isn't Packwood also quite fast? Not quite 180 I guess. I think the absolute fastest I got at PM was 100 on a very wide slalom into the stop box. They had to slow it down through that day as people weren't stopping quick enough and a few blew through the box. |
Packwood is also quite fast yes, though I've never been there in person. This is just basically airport runway shenanigans. |
Packwood is also a wide open pad, and course designs can afford to have a good amount of runoff (buffer) space. Whereas with the Merritt airport runway, when it is that wide, it is that wide. |

Nice lines! I love that you didn’t even use your brakes! :D Edit: @Mark - When are you out here next? Radical comes out in full force usually after the PCA DE events. Last month, they showed up on Sunday, May 3, and seeing them setup was quite a spectacle. The amount of money in that program is insane. |
What did you find terrifying about Mosport, Mark? From the video, it seems to me that you were fighting the steering quite often, but since I have no experience in a Radical, I dunno if that is just the nature of the beast, or whether it was something else. Quote:

That track is bumpy as heck, blind, and very fast/high commitment. Example: Turn 1: 5th gear, no brakes, lift, hit HUGE bump, hug inside concrete wall, flat to exit (nasty rumble strip if you overcook) Then turn 2: 6th gear, 100% blind, off camber so if you over cook, you're going out to the tire wall, no brakes, and complex double apex My favourite is turn 8: 6th gear, lift, turn in at 200km/h, don't miss the apex - split second to get the braking done and down to 4th while going from loaded up turning right to loaded up turning left. The guy who rented the car after me on the next day stuffed it in turn 8 into the wall on lap 3. Good times! Mark |
